Toshiba Qosmio G55-Q802 review: Toshiba Qosmio G55-Q802

Toshiba Qosmio G55-Q802

Adds unique gesture controls; "quad-core" architecture uses CPU and GPU to speed up video rendering tasks.

An 18-inch system that lacks both Blu-ray and 1080p resolution; Second Cell CPU works only with bundled video-editing app; gesture controls are wonky.

Toshiba's Qosmio G55-Q802 adds some dubiously useful gesture control gimmicks, but the real promise is in speedy video transcoding--as long as you use the right software.

Toshiba Qosmio G55-Q802

The first laptop with a cell processor, the Toshiba Qosmio G55-Q802 is a media center with a few interesting innovations that's well suited for video editors.

Secondary cell processor for quicker video editing. Good graphics card. Half a terabyte of storage. Affordable. Excellent speaker system. Upconvert feature lets you watch enhanced standard-definition content.

Would like to see a higher resolution. Cell processor effective only for certain tasks. Gesture Controller is hard to master. Heavier than its rivals.
