Toshiba Satellite L645-S4102

The Toshiba Satellite L645-S4102 mainstream laptop is equipped for handling basic tasks at a midrange-budget price.

Fine keyboard. Energy Star certified.

Bland looks. Underpowered processor.

Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4025

Whether you're limited by your budget or just want netbook functionality in a more comfortable size, the Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4025 should fit the bill without emptying your wallet.

Low price. Distinctive design. Surprising features.

Purple shell might be off-putting to some. Cheap hardware limits use to basic functions.

Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4036

Sometimes you just need a basic laptop that won't hurt your wallet or your back. Toshiba's Satellite L645D-S4036 ($550 as of August 16, 2010) strives to fulfill that role. But while all low-cost laptops make some compromises, the L645D sacrifices some...

Good hard-drive capacity ; Low cost

Video playback quality subpar ; Terrible speakers

Toshiba's L645D clearly aims for the hearts of budget laptop buyers, but some of the compromises it makes to hit its low price may be too severe.

Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4030 review: Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4030

Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4030

Better-than-expected performance from its AMD Turion II processor; solid construction.

Weak battery life; thick-bodied design isn't backpack-friendly.

The Toshiba Satellite L645D-S4030 is a decent all-around budget laptop. However, with its short battery life and cheaper options available from the competition, it's not an overly impressive deal.

Toshiba Satellite L645D review

Sometimes you just need a basic laptop that won't hurt your wallet or your back. Toshiba Satellite L645D strives to fulfill that role. But while all low-cost laptops make some compromises, the L645D sacrifices some usability to achieve its target price.

In the end, the Toshiba Satellite L645D hits its low-price goal, but at the cost of noticeably poor audio quality and mediocre video playback. The keyboard is quite good, however, so if you're looking for a laptop for basic office use and nothing more,...

Toshiba Satellite P50T review

Featuring a gorgeous 4K display, Toshiba prioritises image quality over battery life

Outstanding 4K display; Strong performance; Competitive price

Heavy; Poor battery life; Many Windows apps require updates for 4K display

The 4K display makes the P50T a superb laptop for image and video editing professionals. Just make sure you've got a power socket nearby.

Switched HDD to SDD

Just fixed this old laptop that had a dead HDD, so I ended up getting an A-DATA Pro Premiere 128 GB Solid State Drive and installed Window 8.1 Update 1. I set the BIOS to fast boot and this brought the machine back to life and feel very brand new.

Much better for work, music and video streaming, and check emails

Not ideal for gaming, heavy video and photo editing, and has a very low resale value.
