Toshiba Satellite L650-10G

This mid-range 15.6in laptop is powered by a brisk Intel Core i5 processor and has a 500GB hard drive.

Good build quality, Decent screen, Good CPU performance

Glossy plastics throughout, Non-Gigabit Ethernet, Weak dedicated graphics, Average keyboard

Good value for the price. Good battery life.

No Bluetooth. Would have happily traded in the 56Kbps modem for gigabit Ethernet.

At less than AU$1000, the L650 offers great bang for buck, and should offer the flexibility for most consumers to do what they want to do.

Toshiba Satellite L650-1DG PSK1EE review

The Toshiba Satellite L650-1DG PSK1EE is a smart-looking but somewhat generic mid-range laptop. Like the Medion Akoya P6625, it's a slab of blackness, with a glossy display and subtle patterning.

While the Toshiba Satellite L650-1DG PSK1EE has the edge in terms of looks and build quality and what should be a faster processor, the cheaper Medion Akoya P6625 offers better value for money at this end of the price scale.

Purchased end of Nov, directly from ToshibaDirect. 2nd week of ownership, computer fan kicked up and computer shut down. Currently, it is shutting down 3-4 times per hour.

Great looking and feeling laptop, but I returned mine for a refund - less than 2 hours battery on a full charge (in "eco" mode) is unacceptable.

Look and feel

Unacceptable battery life

Screen, battery life, solid look

Power cord sticks out the right side, interfering with mouse manipulation a bit
