Toshiba Satellite M40 review

Toshiba Satellite M45

Low price; respectable speed; large display; double-layer DVD burner.

Dismal battery life; lacks external multimedia controls.

The Satellite M45's price, performance, and component strengths can't overcome its fatal flaw--deplorable battery life.

Toshiba Satellite M40 Review (pics, specs)

Toshiba's promotional guide explains the Satellite M40 as a "stylish, lightweight notebook that comes in two enhanced models for advanced mobile computing." With the M40, this statement certainly seems true as it fulfils the role of both a desktop...

Toshiba Satellite M40-136

If you're after a desktop replacement then the Satellite M40-136 from Toshiba is well worth considering. At under £1,000, the Satellite has a good set of components and is very well designed - just what you'd expect from a Tosh.

All things considered, this is a good notebook for the money. Battery life isn't great - this is a shame, because the Satellite isn't too heavy to lug about. The screen is brilliant but you can't take full advantage of this asset when playing games, as...

Toshiba M40

The M40 boasts an impressive array of the latest notebook technologies, especially for those with a multimedia bent, although it could do with running a little quieter and cooler.

Harmon Kardon speakers ; Huge range of connectivity options ; Bright display ; Automatic playback of CD/DVDs

Integrated burner a little noisy ; Performance feels a little sluggish

Toshiba M40

My gf has this. Very nice piece of hardware. Laptops are known for their lack of 'gamer' ability, but the Nvidia 6600 GO on this thing is very nice. I play WoW on it all the time. If you'r a gamer, consider upgrading with another stick of 512 ram,...

The 6600 video card ; No problems as of yet (2 years) ; great machine all around

DVD drive spinup can be a bit loud, but should die down once loaded ; case is a bit flimsy. I wouldnt try to drop it. heh
