Toshiba Tecra M8 review

For many laptop users, finding the right screen size is paramount. While the vast majority of laptops used to fall into the 15-inch category, those are quickly being replaced by more manageable 13- and 14-inch models. Apple's hugely popular MacBook...

Sturdy chassis; 13-inch screen resides in sweet spot between usability and portability; hard drive protected against falls; 802.11n Wi-Fi; Santa Rosa Core 2 Duo power for reasonable price.

Uninspiring design; bloatware clutters the desktop and hard drive, which is particularly offensive on a business system.

A decent, if not exactly eye-catching, take on a 13-inch thin-and-light laptop, Toshiba's Tecra M8 offers just enough extras to keep business users interested.

Toshiba Tecra M8 Review

The optical drive in particular is quite thin yet still remains very sturdy. The optical drive (manufactured by LG and similar to drives used in some Lenovo notebooks) is actually as good or better in terms of build quality than some drives we've seen...

Good performance for a business notebook ; Sturdy keyboard ; Reasonably thin and light for a 13.3" notebook ; Nice screen ; Solid selection of ports ; Thin yet durable optical drive

Bad touchpad buttons ; Too much bloatware ; Fan is a bit too loud when the system is under load

Bottom line, the Toshiba Tecra M8 is an excellent business notebook in the 13.3" display class. If you can uninstall the bloatware and use an external mouse it makes one amazing mobile workstation

Consumer review (epinions.com)

Standard configuration not adequate

Competitive system when configured with AGN and 2GB memory.

Shipping time for reasonable configuration is excessive.
