WinBook J4 300 3.06

The WinBook J4 300 3.06, with its black-and-silver color scheme and nicely rounded edges, is stylish and boasts a crisp 15-inch SXGA+ display driven by an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 graphics card.

The warranty is one year on parts and labor. On-site service is not available. Toll-free technical support is 8:00a–9:00p eastern time M–F.

Service and support

WinBook J4 731

Inexpensive; four USB 1.1 ports; one FireWire port.

Heavy; no integrated wireless networking; slow performance; short battery life.

With its slow performance and mediocre specs, the J4 731 will appeal only to students and homebodies on extremely tight budgets.

WinBook J4 732

Notebook buyers who can live with 1 to 2 hours of battery life are snapping up portables built around Intel's desktop PC processors (as opposed to Intel's mobile CPUs); this yields fine performance and saves up to $250 in the bargain. One of the first...

WinBook Hits a Record Low Price

You won't find much cutting-edge technology in the WinBook J4 731 notebook, but check out the cutting-edge price: $799 direct—and only $699 if you take advantage of the short-term rebate. The bulky J4, built around a 2.0-GHz Celeron processor, is sure...

WinBook J4 C2.0

The WinBook J4 C2.0 is the largest notebook in our value category, weighing in at more than 8 pounds. With all that weight, you might expect a lot more than you actually get. For example, the J4 C2.0 shipped with only a CD-ROM drive; several other...
