Excellent focus accuracy, wonderful resolution and colour depth. The transit sace is really robust and very well designed.

It is heavy, and the instruction manual is very lightweight about the use of some controls (focus stop button, and focus preset usage).

There is no denying this is an expensive piece of kit but you know you have moved up a class with a prime lens of this quality build. The autofocus (with or without 1.4x converter) is fast and accurate. There are 3 ranges to cover short, medium and...

Weight and mobility. The lens can be carried and you will know it afterwards. It can be handheld at high speeds but not for long. A suitable tripod and, more important, head are necessary extras.

At the price of less than 5200 EUR at the date of purchase, it was probably one of the best prices for Europe, if not the best one.

Sans doute l'une des meilleures optiques CANON pour la chasse photo et lorsqu'il ne nous est pas permis d'approcher sur les mettings sportifs.

Superbly sharp in the f/4 to f/11 range, miles better than the 400mm f/5 lens which I previously used. Combined with a 1.4x TC, it really makes bird photography much easier.

Price and weight, including large, heavy lens hood cover and hard case, both of which will be replaced by lighter alternatives.

Superb build quality - superb image quality

VERY expensive and quite heavy

Incredible clarity and sharpness and very robust and solid.

Too heavy to cary on Safari and nearly impossible to focus for long on your hand. Tripod or monopod are essential.
