Great Lens - Bad Pricing

What can I say? "L" lens, awesome focus, crisp detail, great reach

It's not light. And the most unfortunate thing to date has been the pricing. Consistently higher than any other online retailer. At one point several hundred dollars OVER msrp. After being corrected, newegg declined to offer the canon rebate, making it...

Super lens

On 2 occasions I have made 500 + shots with this lens and my 40D in 3 hrs. Rarely does it give me a bad image. The problem with birds is when they are in behind limbs etc. The autofocus will focus on the limbs in front. Manual focus is slow and the...

Great birding lens. Crisp well focused images. Originally thought the f/4.5-5.6 might be a problem with light, however when I shot birds it is always outside and it has not been a problem. I don't use a monopod and the IS does great. Use the IS 2 mode...

With a 2X extender the auto focus does not work and this makes it 800mm. Trying to manually focus at 800mm makes the focus ring very coarse. As a result I take a few shots and refocus and take more in case the focus was not optimum. I was going to take...

Wow - Very Nice Lens

As always, Newegg is fantastic. Had the product within 30 hours of my ordering without expediting or paying for faster shipping. Clear emails identifying the status. Clear order history. Prices are always competitive.

Build quality is excellent ; So far images are tack sharp ; This lens is exactly what I have read about. I look forward to taking many great pictures with it

No unexpected cons. For a lens of this quality it is going to be expensive and heavy. I am replacing an inexpensive 400mm lens and this one is much heavier, but for quality glass and excellent build quality, this is expected

Excellent Lens

This is an awesome lens I cannot believe the quality. I was a little hesitant to by a 100-400mm lens but I am speechless as to its ability to work in any application. I have used it at Weddings out to taking pictures of waterfalls with Time laps. I...

It's heavy and Expensive but worth every penny

Not that much better IQ than EF-S 55-250

IMHO, justified for pro with full-frame camera, but so-so for advanced amateur with crop camera. Other than the longer zoom, I couldn't tell that much difference between this lens and my EF-S 55-250, which is much lighter and has better IS.

Excellent IQ (image quality), focus speed, build-quality. Includes case and lens hood. Attention getting. "Conspicuous display of fiscal throw-weight

Bulky. Older lens with limited IS (image stabilizer). Attention getting

Nice lens to invest.

It was first introduced on 1998, after 11 years, lens are still in production. The lens is great to shoot wild life, zoo, and air shows.

Best price for 100-400mm range. IS feature is nice to have when tripod is not available but doesn't guarantee you have sharp shoot due to slower aperture. The picture will be sharper if adding extra stop only if light sources permit

Heavy - 48oz, however still lighter than Canon EF 70-200 f2.8L IS. Lower lighting source will require you to mount it on tripod to have sharp picture taken ; Push Pull design may collect dusts and require some time to be familiar

Great camera!!!

Shooting mostly with a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM Telephoto. Can't recommend this lens highly enough! This isn't a pro lens, but then I'm not a pro.

This camera is my first good DSLR and replaced a Canon S5 IS. What a difference! Reading the specs does not prepare you for how fast this camera starts, focuses, and shoots. I've shot mostly bird photos in a wide variety of conditions including: in my...

The kit lens is nothing to write home about, but it will suffice till I can afford a proper short lens

For When Telephoto is Needed

While I will be using this lens mainly for outdoor (wildlife) and a daylight sports lens, I think for the price this is one fantastic piece of glass that has an excellent build qualit and will have more uses to come!

I took this lens out to go "bird hunting." Before today I had only taken just a few shots on it, most of which were lowlight and nothing too flattering ; At 400mm I could make out all the details on the wings of a Sand Crane while flying through the...

The aperture on this leaves a little more to be desired of, it is a light hog with the max aperture being 4.5. It is decent enough for daylight (and some cloudy) shots, so like any other slower lens, this will require a tripod at night ; The tension...

Great Lens

I have ready many reviews on this lens that complain about the sliding zoom operation. Many reviewers comment that it is difficult to prevent it from slipping when you raise or lower the lens. Some comment that it may slip violently when lowered. I...

Image quality (L), stabilization, Looks, Great for portraits in adequate lighting ; I can hand-hold at full zoom! Amazing

It's heavy, but what would you expect
