Leica 35mm Summilux-M f/1.4 ASPH

This is for the 35mm Summilux/1.4 ASPH lens. I have mixed feelings for this lens. It is extremely good at mid-apertures, is nice and compact, and sharp as it gets, but has pretty bad light fall-off in the first 2 stops.

Fit and finish is outstanding. Compactness is very good for a fast lens like this. When stopped down to about f/4 evenness across the frame is very good, sharpness is outstanding. Never had any flare problems with this lens.

I found light fall-off at f/1.4 to be shockingly bad in a lens this expensive--it's not that wide a lens. Its funny that this was not really mentioned in the various reviews I read prior to buying this lens. Even Erwin Puts only says that fall-off is...

Leica 35mm f/2 Summicron-M Aspherical

Bought it used from a forum member at photo.net Besides it being a sharp lens, I also love the tab. At first I thought it was kinda weird, but now I have come to love focusing with one finger.

sharp lens with great finish (mine is chrome) and heft to match. Focus with one finger!

the hood does not have a slot so it blocks off some of the viewfinder

Leica 35mm f/2 Summicron-M Aspherical

When having an balanced conversation regarding Leica products the following must be remembered: A)Good things cost money. B)All photographic equipment has an optimum usage style. and C)Comparing apples to oranges never produces anything useful. Now my...

Sharpness. Contrast. Size. Speed. Like no other 35mm prime out there.

None (Yes, photo gear is expensive....save up and get over it)

Leica 35mm f/2 Summicron-M Aspherical

The 35 Summicron Asph is my 4th 35 Summicron in over 30 years. Fantastic performer! I shoot quite a bit in low light, so welcome the extra sharpness at the wide open aperture. I'll keep my early one, an old friend, but this one is the best. Now to get...

Sharpness, contrast, and build quality

legibility of markings. size increase over the earlier versions (I know the glass design likely dictated this ; Those smaller pre-Asph 35 Summicrons are the perfect size, IMO)

Leica 35mm Summilux-M f/1.4 ASPH

Leica 35mm 1.4 ASPH. While the older Leica lenses are well know for their mechanical and optical performance this particular lens did not quite meausre up to "my expectations". No doubt Leica makes the best manual rangefinder in production today but...

Smooth Focusing mechanical operation, solid professional construction, no doubt better than anything on the market designed for any rangefinder. Optical performance is great under the right conditions. Yet the optical performance not as good as one...

The lens hood blocks to much of the viewfinder image for me and makes it difficult to compose the image on the fly. Flare on this lens is horrible! (even with the lens hood on) It acts like a lens with no coating, and you cannot see this until you get...

This was my first Leica lens, and it is still my favourite. Bitingly sharp pictures, superb effect on the out-of-focus areas.

Leica 35mm f/2 Summicron-M Aspherical

This lens blew my mind! I shoot all b&w, film rated at EI 800...; the lens is beyond sharp, there is a 3-D look to the subject; out of focus areas are smooth and delicate. I can easily print 16x20 and it looks like med. format. I use it on my M4 & M2.

Small. Well made. Great mechanical feel. Beautiful finish. Funky lens shade.

Price, but cheap when compared to a new car.

Leica 35mm f/2 Summicron-M Aspherical

What a piece of glass!!! This is a Street photographers dream. I use this on my M4-2 and it is light with excellent clarity, crispness, contrast, and color rendition. VERY Sharp, whether opened wide or stopped down all the way this lens brings it 'A'...

Build Contrast Clarity Color Smooooth focus ring. Engineering

NONE. Not ever the price. This is a well engineered precision instrument, and it shows. What is that worth to you?

Leica 35mm f/2 Summicron-M Aspherical

Excellent lens which is very well matched to the Leica M.

Outstanding sharpness and contrast wide open. Compact size. Takes same 39mm filters as 50mm Summicron. Out of focus areas are very pleasing. Almost no distortion across entire field.

Detents for lens shade are not perfectly straight on lens body (off center by a few degrees).
