REVIEW: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200-400mm f/4 G ED VRII

Priced at £6200, Nikon's latest super-telephoto zoom is a serious bit of kit, with a serious price tag.

Superb build quality; Excellent resolution, especially when stopped down; Vibration Reduction; Supplied case; Speed and accuracy of AF; Minimum Focus Distance of 2 metres

Chromatic Aberrations towards edges of the frame; Price; Weight

It comes as no surprise to me that this lens is a superb performer, as was its predecessor. It is capable of producing images with superb resolution and contrast and built to cope with the daily rigours of professional working life.

REVIEW: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200mm f/2G ED VRII

In this review Gary Wolstenholme takes a look at Nikon's latest 200mm prime.

Superb optical performance; Excellent build quality; Fast focusing; Negligible CA levels

Expensive; Size and weight can make it cumbersome to use

Nikon 200-400mm f/4G ED VR II

Upgraded with VRII and improved optics, the Nikon 200-400mm f/4G ED VR II with its constant f/4 aperture sets the bar high.

This is a serious investment even for a pro, so it’s not going to appeal to the masses, but it features some superb technology and delivers excellent quality images and accurate focus.

Consumer review (warehouseexpress.com)

It\'s not fat, it\'s big boned.

You cannot zoom, it scares people, it drains battery, and it is heavy and precious as a piece of real estate... Why bother? 200\/2 seems sharper than ANY other Nikkor @ f\/2. It appears to be the ultimate tele lens for handheld available light...
