Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR is one of the better superzoom SLR lenses we've tested, but its price is on the high side.

16.7x zoom range. Consistent sharpness through range. Optical stabilization. 1:3 macro magnification.

16.7x zoom range. Consistent sharpness through range. Optical stabilization. 1:3 macro magnification. ; Shows significant distortion. Some edge softness when zoomed. Pricey.

Conclusions A lens with a 16.7x zoom ratio is never going to deliver the same performance as a top-end prime lens or a shorter zoom. The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR offers consistent sharpness throughout its zoom range, and while it...

Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm F3.5-5.6G ED VR

The AF-S Nikkor 18-300mm F3.5-5.6G ED VR was announced in June 2012, and holds the distinction of being the longest-range superzoom available for any interchangeable-lens camera system. Its 16.7x, 27-450mm equivalent zoom range trumps Tamron's 18-270mm...

Huge 16.7x focal length range (while maintaining F5.6 aperture at telephoto) ; Good image quality in the wide to short telephoto range ; Fast, quiet autofocus ; Good build quality, smooth zooming action and no zoom creep ; Decent close-up capability

Very soft results at telephoto ; Extreme distortion across most of the range (but can be corrected in-camera with recent SLRs) ; Image stabilization not as effective as on similar lenses, especially at telephoto end ; Flash shadowing at wideangle on...

Nikon's AF-S Nikkor 18-300mm F3.5-5.6 VR lens offers the longest zoom range currently available for any interchangeable lens camera system. But this comes with all of the usual optical compromises associated with a superzoom, in a large, heavy package....

Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II

If you need a one lens solution for your Nikon digital SLR, the 18-200mm AF-S ED VR II is it. In fact, it might be a good reason for choosing Nikon for your next DSLR, just because of the availability of this incredibly versatile lens. There's little...

Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Review

Superzoom lenses were never going to be as good in the optical department as primes or short-range professional zooms, and the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR certainly doesn't challenge that paradigm. Simply put, if you aspire to make...

Meets my requirements

I have changed from a 300 lens plus 1.4 converter as I found that lens too heavy and I was getting problems with camera shake. I am not a happy tripod user preferring to hand hold, this was giving me disappointing results which was a shame as I travel...
