Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G

The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G lens is bright and sharp, and worth adding to your DX Nikon SLR kit.

Inexpensive. Compact and light. Bright aperture. Crisp images.

Some barrel distortion. Narrow, rough-feeling manual focus ring. No optical stabilization. Purple fringing can be visible in high-contrast scenes.

The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G is a lens that's been around for a while, but it's still a very strong performer, especially when you consider its $200 price point. It's a fine choice for Nikon DX owners who want a bright, standard-angle lens for...

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G is a solid lens if you want a lightweight 35mm for your Nikon SLR, but it's not the best one you can get.

Quite sharp. Compact and light. Not that expensive. Wide aperture.

Some barrel distortion. Lacks optical stabilization.

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G is an excellent choice if you're a fan of the 35mm focal length, and its small size will help save some weight if you're carrying a huge full-frame D-SLR. It will pair well with a smaller body like the D610 or D7100....

Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G Review

Compared to the much more expensive f/1.4 version, the new Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G is the sensible choice for full-frame Nikon DSLR shooters, offering most of the optical performance without breaking the bank. It's not as sharp wide open as its...

Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f1.8G Review

The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f1.8G is a good, fast yet inexpensive 'normal prime' for Nikon DX cameras. Its angle of view is some 2-3 degrees tighter than that of a common 50mm lens mounted to an FX or film body, but that is not a major deviation, and...

Nikon 35mm f/1.8G DX AF-S Nikkor Review

The 35mm ƒ/1.8G DX fills an obvious hole in Nikon's lineup, and with its very reasonable price point Nikon may have found a way to ride out the recession. In our tests, the lens performs very well, with good results for sharpness at ƒ/1.8, becoming...

Nikon AF-S 35mm f/1.8G ED review

The Nikon AF-S 35mm f/1.8G ED is a lens with street smarts

Compact and lightweight ; Reasonably priced ; Good overall performance

Lackluster corner-sharpness ; No optical stabilization ; Not extensively weather-sealed

A 35mm focal length is often seen as ideal for street photography and this compact, lightweight Nikon lens fits the bill admirably. With a diameter and length of 72mm and weighing in at just 305g, it’s great for walkabout shooting. Autofocus is fast...

Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f1.8G

Small and compact prime lens, ideal for beginners. Includes AF motor for entry-level cameras. Excellent bokeh and sharpness.

Chromatic aberration present at wide apertures. Noticeable barrel distortion.

The AF-S 35mm is an ideal prime lens for any photographer shooting on the DX format.

Nikon Nikkor AF-S DX 35 mm f/1.8G

On February 9th, 2009 Nikon have surprised everyone presenting the Nikkor AF-S 35 mm f/1.8G DX lens. Why surprised? It's not about the lens being almost absent in rumors and the fact, that the first leaks about it appeared only a day or two before the...

small and lightweight with a metal bayonet ; fantastic image quality at the center of the frame ; good image quality at the edge of the frame after stopping down to at least f/2.0 ; moderate astigmatism ; very good performance against bright light ;...

poor image quality at the edge of the frame around maximum aperture ; distortion could be lower ; clear chromatic aberration ; noticeable coma ; considerable vignetting

REVIEW: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G DX

This compact wide aperture lens for DX compatible Nikon digital SLRs costs around £170 and provides a similar angle of view to a 50mm lens used on a 35mm camera and sports a silent focusing motor.

Excellent optical quality; Good build quality; Light weight; Keenly priced

No distance markings for manual focusing

With a price of around £170, this lens is a bit of a bargain for DX users looking for a compact high quality lens for low light shooting, or to isolate a subject by exploiting shallow depth of field. The optical quality is excellent for a lens at this...
