Nikon 300mm f/4E PF ED VR AF-S Nikkor Review

It's nice to see innovation hard at work, and the resulting reduction in size and weight is welcome for users who were tired of lugging around the 3+ lbs. 300mm ƒ/4 AF-S.

Nikon 300mm f/4E PF ED VR AF-S Nikkor review by ppk

I never had a status symbol kind of lens. Always bought nice mid range zooms and have tolerated the weak telephoto sharpness in every single lens. And I have had many lenses... Traded 80-400 and 18-300 in on this one. The 300 is premium. Fast, light,...

Nikon 300mm f/4E PF ED VR AF-S Nikkor review by Airy

The fresnel lens allows a compact construction and light weight, so finally we got a 300/4 lens that is a good travel companion (esp. with smaller FX cameras such as Nikon Df or D750).

Good IQ in general, efficient AF tracking, reasonable weight and size

Nikon 300mm f/2.8D ED-IF II AF-S Nikkor review by Cliff3

I bought my copy of this lens used in February 2009. I have shot around 25,000 photos with it since that time. I use it with a D700. I have TC14E and TC20E II teleconverters as well as a C-PL1L circular polarizer that I use with this lens. This is a...

Nikon 300mm f/2.8D ED-IF II AF-S Nikkor review by genotypewriter

Here's my sharpness comparison of the Nikon 300 2.8 VR vs. the Canon 300 2.8 IS (both on a 5D Mark II):

Optics, build, mechanics... everything's great

No benefits worth $700 over the older Canon 300 2.8 IS

Nikon 300mm f/2.8D ED-IF II AF-S Nikkor review by exnihiloman

I recently rented this lens for a concert at my church. We have some poor lighting and I wondered how the lens would perform. Turns out the lens performed as I expected. Got lots of nice crisp shots from various angles. Moving around in a dark...

Great For Birds & Other Wildlife

I've taken some stunning photos of birds with this lens. It would be great if the lens had a larger aperture, but then the price would shoot up. Make sure you have a good, solid tripod.

Easily Interchangeable ; Rugged ; Sharp Focus ; Strong Construction

Good, but NOT awesome.

Definitely a remarkable lens, I used it for some time and mostly enjoyed it. BUT, you expect TOP performance from the top product, don't you? Unfortunately my sample was NOT very sharp wide open, which was very bad when using it with TC-14E and TC-17E...

Durable ; Fast ; Quick Focus ; Strong Construction

Heavy ; Not sharp wide open ; Weak VR
