The Samsung 16-50mm f/2-2.8 S ED OIS is a big improvement over a standard kit lens, but it's pricey and has a few optical issues.

Very sharp. Captures a lot of light. Focuses to 0.3-meter. Optical stabilization. Dust and splash resistant design

Expensive. Some edge weakness and color fringing. Barrel distortion at 16mm. Big and heavy
