Zoom action is not consistently smooth; someplace in mid-range it requires more force to turn the zoom.

For the novice photographer this is an excellent lens. One lens to fit most occassions.

If you dont want to be changing lenses every time you need to take that perfect shot, this is the perfect compromise.
