Sony SAL-1680Z Camera Lens

Good crisp pictures. Smooth zoom. Ziess brand. (Not sure of the brand value, seems to be designed by Ziess but made by Sony).

No zoom lock. Prefer the SAL16105 for its range and cannot see the quality difference. The SAL 16105 tends to be a little stickier on the zoom. Unable to see what the extra cost provides other than a badge.

Excellent IQ, far better than the standard 18-70 and 18-250 that I also own.

Zoom action a bit stiff but that might free up. Extending section feels a bit wobbly and rattles

Very nice handling; good smooth action whilst zooming and focussing. Image quality superb, even wide open.

Dramatic difference between photographs taken with this lens and the kit lens. Quite extraordinary. Well worth saving up for!

I can't say that there's anything wrong regarding build quality - it just doesn't have that super quality feel that you'd expect. Especially as the results are so good.

My lens has begun to creep, although it took about 8 months for that to happen. Variable aperture, therefore not fast enough in low light. No internal zoom or SSM motor for focusing.

A little bit on the expensive side, but cheap for a Zeiss lens. Would be good if the lens was a little bit faster (3.5/4.5) and "macro" would be perfect.

Slight wobble in lens barrel when on full extension, a lens of this class should not have any!

A have owned this lens for six weeks. My initial impressions are that it produces absolutely superb pictures, it is really easy to use and the built quality is what you would expect from a Sony product - excellent ! I am still exploring the capability...
