Amazon Fire TV Stick review

Amazon is giving Roku a run for its money with the Fire TV Stick, a $40 device about the size of a pack of gum that grants 1080p HD access to a wide array of content and games. If you're an Amazon Prime member already, this is a no-brainer.

Super-fast navigation ; Intuitive home-screen layout ; Instant access to Amazon content ; Wide selection of apps and games

No Ethernet connection ; Search limited to Amazon content ; Gaming accessories cost as much as the stick

We’re still big fans of Roku’s service-agnostic stance, and it has the best selection of apps and the best search feature on the market. But when it comes to games and access to Amazon’s universe of content, the Fire TV Stick is a far superior choice....

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K

With 4K HDR, Amazon Alexa, and very peppy performance, the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K is the best media streamer you can buy for under $50.

Affordable. Supports 4K with HDR10 and Dolby Vision. Amazon Alexa. Quick Wi-Fi streaming and menu navigation.

No Google Play apps. Ethernet adapter not included.

Bottom Line: With 4K HDR, Amazon Alexa, and very peppy performance, the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K is the best media streamer you can buy for under $50.

Amazon Fire TV Stick With Alexa Voice Remote

If you haven't moved up to a 4K TV yet, it's only logical that you don't need a 4K media streamer. In the non-4K field, the $39.99 Amazon Fire TV Stick is easily one of the best. It's a powerful little device that features Amazon's robust Fire TV...

Inexpensive. Comes with improved voice remote that can control your TV. Voice search and Amazon Alexa are very useful. Fast performance.

Missing some notable streaming services.

Amazon's Fire TV Stick is faster and less expensive than ever, and comes with an Alexa-enabled voice remote out of the box, making it the best budget-friendly media streamer you can buy.

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K review

With 4K HDR streaming, Dolby Vision and all the voice goodness of Alexa, does Amazon's new streamer poses a real threat to Roku?

Better streaming format support than anything in its price range. Voice features are best-in-class, and Echo and Dot owners can control it with Alexa. Its app and game selection is superb, responses are lightning fast and video quality is as good as...

The user interface pushes Amazon content too aggressively. The selection of 4K, HDR and Dolby Vision TV shows and movies is worse than on Apple TV 4K or Roku.

It flogs Amazon content too much to beat Roku, but for Alexa fans or 4K HDR TV owners who insist on Dolby Vision, the Fire TV 4K Stick is a great value.

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K review: This is the media streamer to beat

Amazon's new Fire TV Stick sheds past mistakes and streams 4K HDR video at an unbeatable price

Impressive performance at a low price Broad HDR format support, plus HDR menus and SDR-to-HDR conversion Increasingly useful Alexa voice controls

The menu system is still too bloated Genre searches are Alexa's weak spot No support for YouTube TV, our favorite live TV streaming service

Now, the Fire TV Stick 4K’s upselling and advertising seem like an acceptable trade-off. They’re just the price you pay for an unbeatable value.

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Review: A Welcome Upgrade

As 4K HDR streaming devices go, the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K does a great job balancing functionality, price and performance.

Excellent 4K HDR quality ; Zippy navigation ; Lots of great apps ; Improved remote

Amazon-heavy interface ; Requires inconvenient power adapter

With lots of content to play and more than enough power to process high resolutions and wide color gamuts, the Fire TV Stick 4K is an easy recommendation. It's not quite as good as the Roku Streaming Stick+, which has a better app lineup and a more...

Amazon Fire TV Stick (3rd Gen) review: You should probably buy a Chromecast

Amazon has been producing Fire TV streaming sticks for several years now, but most of them have been mediocre at best. That's what you'd

Performance ; The updated Fire TV is actually responsive and fast to load applications, unlike its predecessors. ; Software ; Alexa is about as good as it gets with smart TV assistants, and just about every media service has an app available for Fire...

Software (again) ; The Fire TV interface is cluttered and filled with advertisements that you can't turn off.

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K review

Future-proofed video streamer supports 4K and advanced HDR and has Alexa voice control

Excellent 4K and HD visuals. Wide range of apps and 'channels' means access to a huge range of free, subscription and pay-to-view stuff to watch. Support for Dolby Vision, HDR 10+ and Atmos means it seems pretty future-proofed. Voice control and the...

The sheer volume of stuff to watch makes it inevitably unwieldy. There's very little so far that actually plays back with Dolby Vision, HDR10+ or Atmos

With support for 4K, with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ and even Dolby Atmos audio, this inexpensive, voice controlled video streamer is one of the tech bargains of the year

Amazon Fire TV Stick review: super streamer now with added Alexa

It may be small in size but this streamer is kind of a big deal

Lots of content ; Alexa works pretty well ; Skills are useful in front of the TV

You really need to have Prime ; Needs a charger ; No 4K
