GCN Lab Review: Dell UltraSharp 2709W LCD monitor

If you play a lot of video on a large screen, the 2709W is a good choice. But if color accuracy or more mundane tasks hold sway, a 24-inch panel might better suit your office needs.

Colors are vivid but not quite accurate, light bleeds in from upper corners of screen

Dell 2709W

Dell's latest 27-inch introduces an updated menu system, several new inputs and wide colour gamut.

New menu system is leagues ahead of the 07 and 08 series. Great blacks. Mass of video inputs. Audio out for HDMI.

Can be easy to accidentally turn off due to touch sensitive buttons. Zoom function only magnifies the centre, can't be repositioned. Standard preset is too saturated, sRGB too undersaturated. Left and right sides at the extremes are a bit dark....

While hardcore PC gamers might want to stay clear, and colour professionals may have to wrestle a little with calibration to get the most out of it, the 2709W is likely to please your average user to no end who wants a big screen with a decent resolution.

Excellent Monitor

This monitor is wonderful for opening and viewing multiple word, pdf, and excel files....When I first hooked it up, it would go into "powersave" constantly. So, I upgraded the power supply on my computer from 300 watts to 450 watts. After that, I have...

Dell 2709W

Monitor is too large for he native resolution. Text is fuzzy even after tweaking display settings and antialiasing properties in the driver.

Plenty of digital inputs makes a DVI KVM unnecessary. Very bright; good color saturation

Native resolution of 1920x1200 is too small for the panel. The Dell 24" is better for 1080p
