Samsung SyncMaster 940UX review: Samsung SyncMaster 940UX

Samsung SyncMaster 940UX

DisplayLink video chip lets you connect it via USB, which makes it highly convenient as a second display; you can daisy-chain up to six DisplayLink LCDs; decent viewing angle.

Aside from DisplayLink, the features are sparse; lower than average performance including a slow 5ms response time.

While its ability to connect to your PC via USB makes the Samsung SyncMaster 940UX a convenient second monitor, LG has a cheaper and larger DisplayLink model that also boasts better overall performance.

Samsung 940UX

You can't help but be impressed that Samsung's 940UX provides 19 inches of 1280x1024-res full-color LCD action over a USB 2.0 interface. How is that even possible? It's the result of a built-in DisplayLink chip and driver, which handles graphics duties...

Daisychain up to 6 monitors; no need for a DVI port; acceptable for static-tasks use

CPU hog; performs poorly on video tests. Pricey

But as much as we encourage multimonitor usage, we can’t condone a solution that’s this fraught with compromise. The USB interface was perfectly serviceable when we performed static and semi-static tasks, such as working in word processors, surfing the...

Samsung Syncmaster 940UX 19inch LCD Display Review

The Samsung syncmaster 940UX offers up a contrast ratio of 1000:1, brightness is pegged at a good 300 cd/m2, viewing angles sit at 160 degrees horizontal / vertical, and tripple video inputs (DVI, VGA, USB).

Here are a few other articles that you might enjoy as well..

Samsung SyncMaster 940UX 19-inch LCD Monitor

There's no denying that you have a lot of options when it comes to selecting an LCD monitor to accompany your computer. Some of these monitors are designed to attract your attention with their exceptional refresh rates, contrast ratios, or viewing...

I have a preference for widescreens and the SyncMaster 940UX is not. It's not a big deal, but it just speaks to what I look for in a monitor. When you look at the spec sheet, you'll find that the numbers provided aren't exactly top of the class, but...

X-bit labs - Samsung SyncMaster 940UX: First USB-Monitor Reviewed!

Although USB connectors in monitors appeared many years ago, they have performed only secondary functions all this time. However, now Samsung Company offered an LCD monitor that is connected to the PC via the USB bus and can work without a graphics...

The SyncMaster 940UX is a PC monitor with a USB interface and it really worked via USB in our tests. It cannot replace the traditional D-Sub and DVI interfaces because the software emulation of the graphics card cannot replace the true hardware and...

Samsung 940UX USB LCD Monitor

USB really is starting to take over all your connected peripherals on your computer these days. With most new computers not even having a serial, parallel or PS/2 keyboard/mouse ports, we're starting to just see a mass of USB ports. With many...

USB display mode is an awesome new feature being introduced on this monitor ; Can be used as a regular monitor on a video card if you chose to not use the USB functionality ; D-Sub, DVI and USB inputs ; Two-port USB hub on the left side (makes it easy...

USB isn't without it's limitations as some may dislike ; No Vista compatability at this time (June '07)

Samsung has a great new technology on their hands by using the DisplayLink chip in their 940UX monitor. The USB functionality opens up a whole new set of doors for those wanting to add multiple displays to a system but who don't have the resources or...

Samsung SyncMaster 940UX USB 19in flat-panel monitor

While most users are obsessed with upping their processor, memory or graphics card, one of the best ways of increasing PC productivity is to connect a second monitor, and the Samsung SyncMaster 940UX USB makes this easy.

You will have to pay an extra £20-£25 for the privilege, but the Samsung SyncMaster 940UX USB remains a very strong screen. The USB technology is great and allows for an extremely versatile setup that'll let you bolt on new screens far into the future....
