Creative Zen Flash-Based MP3 Player

Gadget lover's player may lack Wi-Fi, but it has lots of other features, supports a wide array of formats, and accepts SD Cards.

Feature-heavy, SD Card slot for instant memory upgrades

One-handed operation a little tricky, Skimps on bundled accessories

But it's a great choice for gadgeteers and audiophiles alike. If the 16GB's $150 price tag is too rich for your blood, buy a lower-end Zen and make up the difference with SD Cards

Creative ZEN

The new ZEN may lack design flare, but it offers plenty of value.

Bright 2.5-inch screen. SD memory card slot. FM radio and voice-recording capability. Supports unprotected AAC files.

Erratic start-up times. No FM or line-in recording. Plays only WMV video files. Poor battery life.

Creative Zen

video player. In terms of general wow factor or ease of use, it's no iPod touch, but it does have a larger screen than the iPod nano and more features, including an FM radio and a voice recorder. The 4GB and 8GB ZEN flavors match or beat Apple's prices...

Place it next to an iPod nano and the ZEN looks positively bulky, but it also packs a larger screen and more features. And unlike the nano, the ZEN comes in a roomy 16GB capacity.

Creative Zen review: Creative Zen

Creative Zen

The Creative Zen sounds fantastic and features a brilliant color screen capable of displaying photos and video. The player offers a smorgasbord of desirable extras such as an SD card expansion slot, an FM radio, a voice recorder, and a user-definable...

The Creative Zen only comes in black, the control pad feels cheap, and it doesn't come close to matching the max 60GB offered by the player it's replacing.

We're hard-pressed to find anything not to like about the Creative Zen. It's a great option for anyone looking for a great-sounding, pocketable MP3 player with an excellent, video-capable screen and plenty of extra features.

Creative Zen review

In a move that surprised many a Creative fan, the company has ushered in a flash-based replacement for its Zen Vision:M , a full-size, hard-drive player that offered up to 60GB of space. Though the news was not well-received by some proponents of...

Creative Zen V review: Creative Zen V

The Creative Zen V offers a cute, pocket-friendly design without sacrificing screen real estate, and the vivid OLED display is viewable from any angle. The player packs in some nice features, such as voice and line-in recording, photo playback, and...

The Creative Zen V's joystick is really small and has a cheap feel to it, and we wish Creative had included all the buttons found on the Vision:M. The screen is difficult to see in bright sunlight, and there's no UMS support. Also, you don't get the FM...

The Creative Zen V is a good choice for anyone looking for a compact flash MP3 player with recording features and great sound quality. However, the more feature-filled Zen V Plus is a better value.

Creative Zen Aurvana review: Creative Zen Aurvana

Lightweight, durable, and low profile; comfortable fit; good noise-blocking capability and balanced clean sound.

Should come with foam earbud option and 1/4" adapter jack

If you need lightweight and quality in-ear earphones for under $100, check out the Creative Aurvanas, which match up quite well against the Shure E2cs.

Performance

Creative Zen Portable Media Center

Intuitive onscreen interface; big and colorful screen; solid battery life; impressive integration with Windows Media Player 10.0 and Windows XP Media Center Edition (MCE).

Bulky design; lacks a built-in kickstand; reflective screen not ideal for outdoors use; no audio- or video-recording capabilities; works with Windows XP and Windows Media Player 10.0 only.

Eight months after its announcement, the Creative Zen PMC is finally here. Despite its bulk, the player is solid, but it's the Microsoft Portable Media Center software that deserves most of the praise.

Creative Zen Portable Media Center

For a first iteration, the Creative Zen Portable Media Center delivers on the promise of PMCs and Windows Media Player 10.

Stylish looks. Exceptional battery life. Good audio and photo playback.

Screen is susceptible to glare and smudges. Recorded video looks bad on a full-size TV. No kickstand.

Creative Zen Hybrid SXFI Review

The wireless headphones that deliver spatial holography, ANC, 70-hour battery life. Elevates audio experience in movies, games, music.

It is a shame that the Creative SXFI technology has not gotten as much market attention as other spatial sound tech. I think the main reason is that listeners do not think they want headphones that sound like speakers. They want their headphones to...
