Brother DCP 165C review: Brother DCP 165C

Brother DCP 165C

Low cost to print; two-year warranty.

Poor output quality; slow print times; awkward build quality; outdated design; creative software requires online connection; no USB cord included.

We've tested plenty of printers at CNET, but very few have frustrated us as much as the Brother DCP-165C multifunction has. The counterintuitive setup, bland design, deplorable print quality, and crawling output speeds earns this printer a double...

Brother supports its printers with a one-year limited warranty. The company's website provides more support by way of manuals, FAQs, service centre locations and software downloads.

Brother DCP-165C

This MFD, though best suited for office use, also boasts of photo-printing features.

Good print quality in normal mode, Fast print speeds in fast mode, Decent scanner, Decent looks, Good price, Good bundled software

Grainy prints in the fast mode, Reddish hue in photo prints, No FAX

Inoperable right out of the box

There goes thirty bucks and a couple lost hours, which for a three-time Brother owner, aren't especially appreciated. Please tell me this isn't a device with the sole aim of selling ink carts, guys.

So far, none

Beware: Ships with what are apparently fake ink carts. They plug in but won't print so much as a single page. Menu locked; won't reset; no recourse

a good deal

easy setup, good quailty for our usage, haven't run out of ink yet like with HP, epson, etc. main uses are for printing and scanning. no problems so far at all after 3+ mo's. good deal for price - believe we pd $79 or $89 with free shipping

can't figure out how to re-direct default directory when scanning. referring to help manual doesn't cover the 165

Great Printer, but Not For Me

Doesn't work well with Windows Home Server. There was no stated support for WHS/Win2003 but I took a chance. I was able to modify the drivers to get the printer set up and shared in WHS. While printing with this setup worked from WinXP, however I could...

Great printer. Fits on the smallest of shelves in the smallest of closets and it's no trouble grabbing printed pages out of the cramped space. Copier is quick and easy as well

Could be faster. I haven't owned an inkjet for about 4 years but I'm sure that this is no faster than the cheapo I got for free with my Compaq Desktop in 2004
