Horrible Printer

I bought several of these printers for our business...big mistake! The color output looks terrible on all of the printers, no matter what calibration steps I try. One printer threw a "Print Unable 3B" error code just after the warranty was up...Brother...

Too lazy to deal with this printer's issues.

Brother HL4040CDN

Have a Brother HL-1850N that I bought in early 2001, finally needed a new drum and toner for it which was over $230, this 4040 was on clearance at OM, a no brainer. Will pickup memory for it, just a matter of finding it in my companies laptop graveyard.

Fast setup, toners drop right in, not a ton of shipping tape to remove ; Brothers have been rock solid and I prefer them to all the others ; Up and running in under 8 minutes

Have 5 of these at work that I bought, so far only issue is getting them to print with my Itanium HP_UX 11V3 servers but it's not a high priority, just a matter of finding the right drivers ; None except for the price of the carts and drum

Brother Writes Linux Drivers!

I've got the non-duplexing version of this printer, but otherwise they're the same model. I've always had good luck with Brother printers, and this printer has been no exception. Owned it for over a year now, and no major problems.

Linux (and pretty much anything else) compatible, easily networked, long lasting, stays quiet when not in use

Very happy

Owned it 10 months now. Happy. NewEgg delivered it fast around Xmas time. It's the first laser printer in our home office. Would not dream of going back to inkjet, but I miss having a fax/scanner/copier in the same room when I banished the old MFD to...

Faster than an ink jet and pretty low maintenance, touch wood. Solid and versatile. Duplex is great. Networking is easy and I don't mind it has no WiFi (glad, actually)

I live about 15 miles from a nuclear powerplant. They want me to call them before I print so they can pull some carbon rods. OK, I exaggerate, but the lights do dim a bit in the home office when this thing actually prints

Built Like a Tank!

Been using it for about 6 months now on a Mac Network and Airport Extreme Router with no problems. Gets along well with other peripherals and works great. Highly recommended!!!!

VERY pleased

Newegg had an excellent deal and I had never had a color laser, so gave it a shot (replaced a networked Brother B&W personal laser). VERY pleased with the decision. I have this printer installed on every computer in my home network and it works...

WONDERFUL!!!!

I got this on sale for about $235 with free shipping. I should have bought two back then. I was a big fan of lexmark but they are way noiser and bigger compared to this.

Duplex ; Colour Printing ; Ease of use ; Light weight (compared to my old Lexmark c530dn) ; Fast printing

Price for cartridges in the future, but that is the same for any laser printer ; Do not expect photo like quality (no laser printer can do this)

works well, bad repair service

My wife runs a small business, and prints about 200 pages per month. Not much as lasers go, but more than your average consumer/student. It's really a good printer... if not for the drum problems, I think I would have given it 5 stars.

Cheap! Full color, LAN, Duplex, all for $225! Worked VERY well for 9 months or so. (still works quite well for black) ; It is a bit large, but not bad for a color laser with DUPLEX
