Canon Pixma MP800 all-in-one

The Canon Pixma MP800R has all the features a photo hobbyist needs, including a media card reader, PictBridge and IrDA ports, a huge color LCD, and slide and negative scanners. Additionally, you can network this printer--either wired or wirelessly--so...

The text quality of the MP800R is subpar.

With its wealth of photo-manipulation features, the Canon Pixma MP800R is a great choice for an amateur photo hobbyist. It's also fast at all tasks, which makes it a better choice than the HP Photosmart 3310.

Great colour graphics and fine-looking photos. Scans quickly. Individual ink tanks. Prints double-sided pages. PC and Mac ready. Decent paper handling. IrDA, PictBridge, memory card input.

Text quality is sub par.

Good

Have had this machine for several years and it does everything I need including copying, scanning and printing. I love its versatility. Excellent value.

Versatility and print quality.

High ink usage and costs.

Terrible

I bought a Canon MP 800 printer/scanner a few years ago and have found it to be a regrettable purchase. The first unit I obtained had to be exchanged immediately as it was faulty. The second unit worked well for almost a year. However, after replacing...

Scanner

Heavy ink consumption/ unreliable, pricey cartridges/ unit "freezing" when ink has run out or if cartridge is faulty

Good

I would definately consider buying a canon unit again. I found it pretty easy to use, and I usually don't bother reading instruction manuals. I love how it is designed to do a large variety of jobs. The only drawback is the ink price - I don't bother...

This unit has been pretty reliable. The scan & print quality are excellent. The screen menus are easy to read & understand. The ink cartridges are easy to remove and install. Its a pretty solid unit with a great variety of functions in one.

The ink price is excessive and it seems to use a lot of it. It costs between $26-$30 per cartridge. It doesn't always detect the CD in the tray when trying to print a label. Sometimes the manual feed tray doesn't drag the paper in straight and you end...

Excellent

Overall if you want a high quality printer this is the way to go. I have has no problems so far with the printer since I purchased it in 2006. The only thing which concerns me is the price of ink.

The printer can scan and photocopy at a high quality with the choice of colour or not. The ability to scan negatives and print on CDs and DVDs is also good. Photos and documents print out with clarity beyond many other competitors capabilities. Also...

Cost of ink - a huge issue over $120 for the full set - Calidad inks are cheaper though.

Good

Overall, however, this machine is very close to perfect. It will scan at upto 2400 x 4800 dpi from A4 down to 35 mm slides (four at a time, saved in separate files) or a strip of 6 negatives. Cardboard mounted slides scan better than those with thicker...

The majority of my comments on the MP800 will apply to the MP500 except for the MP500's inability to scan slides & negatives and its lower scanning definition. Almost everything about the MP800 is brilliant. The photo printing is the best I have seen...

Because of its compact design, there is very little room for the rear paper tray and, unfortunately, Canon have not used that space well. The fixed left-hand paper support is for 8" (203 mm) wide paper, too narrow for A4. The sliding width support is...
