Review: Epson Stylus Photo R280 printer

Many of us enjoy printing our own photos at home. It is a hobby that is convenient and not very expensive. The big question is what kind of printer do I need and how much should I spend. Today I will be examining the Epson Stylus Photo R280. This...

Garbage

I did get this free with a camera from another store. I guess they needed to get rid of this garbage to make room for better printers. From my experiences, Canons are better. I now own a refurbished Canon PIXMA MX320. I don't regret it.

It works for the first year or so

After the first year, the print quality shows lines and one time the colors were off. Replacing ink cartridges are expensive. After a while it doesn't even want to accept official Epson cartridges let alone 3rd party ones. It did break for me really...

Weak Product

I thought I would save some money, and got a refurbished unit direct from Epson for just a few dollars above the price of a set of ink cartridges. Big Mistake! It was DOA, and I was left with with Epson's "no refund, exchange only" policy for...

Low price

Low reliability. Very expensive ink

Awesome Photo printing

I have been an epson fan for years and this is the best photo printer I have seen bar none but if they insist on continuing these unfair marketing tatics I may just have to go with another MFG in the future. I can't afford to pay $75 for ink for a $99...

Awesome borderless prints on epson papers, Faster than my old r220. Best looking printer I've ever seen

Epson is trying to force people into using their overpriced inks. This printer will not work with anything but epson inks and not always even with them thanks to their tinkering! This amounts to price fixing and monoply tactics. Are you listening FTC

Best prints I've seen

Great printer overall, horrible quirks with the ink. If epson actually gets some quality control on the chips for the inks so china inks work with mexico ones, I wouldn't have a single problem with it.

The Print quality on this is outstanding, I've never seen better prints, even from a pro 4800, BUT you have to use epson paper to get the quality. Best inks epson has ever made. As for ink consumption, unlike other reviewers here, mine gets double the...

There are cartridge compatibility issues. Cartridges made in mexico only work with themselves, and ones from china only work with themselves. If you have the misfortune of getting china inks, then they won't register as being installed if you have...

Epson R280

Too bad, this is a nice looking printer that is fast and prints quite well. But I can't tolerate ink usage like this!

Nice looking. Prints reasonable fast. Good quality prints

INHALES INK!!! I thought HP printers were bad. This R280 is horrible. I was looking for a leak! Printed 2 8x10 color pictures and maybe 20 pages of print. 3 of the 6 cartridges were empty! At $80 for a set of 6 replacements---forget it. This printer is...

Ink Drinker

For regular printing jobs and Photos, get a HP... Nice PICs on my C6180.. HP looks like professional job with Advance Paper settings..

I bought to to get the Ink mostly. I have another one of these that I bought last year, which I use only for DVD printing. I have a HP C6180 for Photo and DOC printing

This thing loves to drink the ink.. On sale at moment which is cheaper than the Ink...lol

Don't do it

The game appears to be to sell whatever junk want, then sell overpriced ink cartridges. We're back where we were in 1986.

Cheap, no useless bells/whistles

I bought this printer to replace an HP8250, which went through ink like it had a leak and showed drives on my system for cards, etc. that I don't need. My first problem with the Epson was that it wouldn't work with Ubuntu 7.1 without a lot of hassle...
