Lexmark Z735

The Lexmark Z735 offers three-color printing only, with good-looking, relatively fast-printing photos.

Low price. Very good-quality photos at very good speed for the price.

Graphics and photos have pastel-like, almost faded-looking, color on plain paper. Three-color printing yields seriously flawed text quality. No USB cable.

Lexmark Z735 Printer

Lexmark's $49 price tag for its Z735 sounds tempting, but you should think twice about it--even if it comes bundled as a freebee with a new PC. This printer uses a single cartridge containing just three colored inks (the usual cyan, magenta and...

Glossy photos are of acceptable quality ; Fairly compact when not in use

Slow speeds and unattractive prints ; Uses a single tri-color catridge

The two-button control panel makes operating the Z735 a cinch. The power switch glows pleasantly blue when the printer is on--a touch that smacks of decadence compared to the unit's print quality and performance

The price is enticingly low, but print quality and performance are disappointing.

Lexmark Z735 Review

As with virtually every inkjet, you can forget about Lexmark's advertised print speed (up to 15 pages per minute) even in draft mode: Not only is draft output on plain paper almost comically faint or ghostly gray, but it took 14 seconds for our...

Lexmark Z735

Not only is the Z735 extremely inexpensive to buy but Lexmark claims that its three colour cartridge system makes it cheap to run too. Simon Williams discovers if it's actually too good to be true.

Lexmark Z735

This printer should sit comfortably in your home, just don't expect it to churn out award-winning pictures.

Clutter-free design ; One-cartridge system ; Affordable

Flimsy plastic construction ; Noisy startup ; Banding and dithering in photos

You cannot complain too much about print quality if you intend to go for price value. So long as you don't bring it close to your nose, your photos will look just fine. However, we don't recommend printing in normal quality as banding and dithering are...

Lexmark Z735

Amazingly, the Lexmark Z735 printer costs less to buy than a single inkcartridge for some other printers, at just £25. It also uses just one cartridge, which combines cyan, magenta and yellow inks, leaving blackout of the equation altogether.
