Service and support

Samsung CLP-500

Inexpensive; includes duplexer and Ethernet interface; fast text printing.

Mediocre text quality; control panel and design are confusing.

Despite its less-than-perfect text quality, we consider this to be one of the best all-around deals for an affordable color laser.

Samsung CLP-500

Samsung's CLP-500 offers lots of office-worthy features at a bargain price.

With the CLP-500 you get good paper handling and performance for a home-office printer price.

Samsung CLP-500

The Samsung CLP-500 can be summed up in six words: excellent output quality at slow speeds.

Ultimately, the Samsung CLP-500's slow speed—particularly for returning control after printing—makes it hard to recommend. Even so, if you must have a color laser with a duplexer, or one that works with Linux, this is your least expensive choice.

Samsung CLP-500 Review

Top-quality color laser printing at a low price, Double-sided printing and real paper drawer (not plastic tray) standard; more memory and paper capacity optional

Big, heavy, and not so cheap when it comes to consumables

Still, while we doubt its cost-effectiveness for a company that produces thousands of pages per day, the Samsung fills a nifty niche if you need a few hundred PowerPoint handouts or marketing-flyer pages each day. One reason why is its friendly paper...

Samsung CLP-500

Samsung has produced a very cheap colour laser printer. As long as your duty cycles are low, the CLP-500 offers great value for money.

Our single biggest reservation is the high cost of running this printer if you expect to print many pages each month, particularly if you use colour. On the other hand, if you want a colour laser printer with a low initial price and you don't have a...

Samsung CLP-500

Home-based businesses and small offices looking for a sub-$1,000 colour laser with a network printing option should consider the Samsung CLP-500.

Low priced ; Fast ; Expandable ; Includes built-in duplex unit

Colour text quality is only so-so ; Add-ons make this printer expensive

If you are looking for a low-cost colour laser printer for an office that doesn't have a high paper output, then the Samsung CLP-500 is a good buy, particularly with its built-in duplex function. On the other hand, if your office has a high monthly...
