Optoma HD20

If you've been holding out for an affordable 1080p projector, your wait may be over.

Breakthrough price for a 1080p projector. Reasonably high-quality image for 480p and above.

Falls down a bit on image quality for 480i (standard-definition) television signals.

On the HD HQV Benchmark test, a measure of how well the projector can handle input at 1080i, the HD20 scored 50 out of a possible 100, doing well on the noise reduction, jaggies (Read: edge smoothing), and one of two film resolution loss tests, but...

Optoma HD20 DLP Projector Review

Optoma has upped the bar with their release of the HD20. This sub $1k projector is 1080p, has more than enough inputs for most applications, and gets you into a front projection system for cheap.

Price ; Great plug and play performance ; Noise reduction

Marginally adjustable ; Poor jaggie reduction ; Auto-source doesn't give enough time for HDCP ; Blinding backlight on remote ; Light leakage from front of unit ; Loud fan

Optoma HD20 Single-chip 1080p DLP Projector

One of the difficulties in writing a series about affordable front projectors is deciding what constitutes "affordable." A few years ago, that would have meant anything under $5,000 for a 1080p projector. But advances in technology, manufacturing...

The Optoma HD20 succeeds in doing something I would have thought impossible: Creating a worthy 1080p front projector for under $1,000. The HD20 suffers from some practical limitations and image quality issues not present in some of its more expensive...

Optoma HD20 DLP Video Projector - Review

Setting up and using the HD20 was fairly easy. The input connections are clearly labeled and spaced out, and the on-unit control buttons and remote control are easy to use. However, the HD20 does not offer power zoom or focus controls. With 1,700...

Optoma HD20 DLP Projector

In some respects, the Optoma HD20 is an exceptional value, providing a razor-sharp 1080p image for just about as little money as any projector I know of. It's overall detail and color are excellent via HDMI, and it offers extensive controls,...

Optoma HD20

There's plenty to be excited about in the Optoma HD20. It's a 1080p projector for under a thousand dollars.

The Optoma HD20 has the winning feature of 1080p resolution, along with the color performance to match a decent HDTV. However, the lamp just couldn't get bright enough to make it a viable choice for a room with any level of ambient light. If you plan...

Optoma HD20 DLP Projector Review

Great for a windowless room, but might be too dim if there's any ambient light

Reasonably priced for 1080p; Performs well on color tests

Needs to be significantly far from screen; No audio interfaces
