Sanyo PLV-Z5 LCD Projector Review

The Sanyo PLV-Z5 makes a few improvements on the Z4 platform and keeps itself at the top of a very hot list of 720p projectors that are guaranteed to make any home theater enthusiast almost certain

Very detailed image with reduced screen door effect ; Excellent calibration out of the box ; Quiet cooling system ; 3000 hour bulb life (max) ; Excellent LCD panel adjustment and maintenance options

No 12VDC trigger ; Only a minor upgrade from the PLV-Z4

Sanyo PLV-Z5 Home Theater Video Projector Review

Stylish and modern, Quiet, Hugely adjustable picture settings, Best in class image quality, Adjustable if sloppy horizontal and vertical lens shift, Great connectivity

Can be prone to dust contamination with long use, Out of box image settings aren't impressive, Initial picture set up can be time consuming, Silver case can be distracting

Sanyo PLV-Z5 Projector

Our resident projector-phile is bowled over by the PLV-Z5, the latest 3-chip high definition LCD home theater projector from Sanyo.

With an estimated "street price" of well under $2,000, the Z5 is a can't-miss for any home theater enthusiast, or really anyone who enjoys watching movies and high definition television in the comfort of their own home. The Sanyo gives you a winning...

Sanyo PLV-Z5 Projector Review

The external appearance of Z5 is not any different than the Z4's, its older counterpart, which was designed on the same guidelines. Many buyers who have seen Z4 may bypass Z5 simply because of the same looks. However, the internal machinery of Z5 is...

Sanyo, with its headquarters in Chatsworth, California, is one of the world's largest LCD projector manufacturers. Sanyo PLV-Z5™ is selling for $1,695.00 plus there is a cash rebate of $200.00 until 01/31/07 from Sanyo. This is a pretty good deal for...

Sanyo PLV-Z5

Reviewing the PLV-Z5 home theater projector, has been an interesting experience. I say this because of expectations. In the LCD class, under $2000, we already reviewed the new Panasonic PT-AX100U, a major improvement (especially brightness and...

Extremely sharp image ; Very good black levels ; Excellent shadow detail ; Extensive control of image quality ; Excellent zoom lens with 2:1 (+) range ; Excellent lens shift range ; Very quiet ; Good manual (on disk) ; Excellent warranty ; Dual HDMI...

Out of the box color accuracy ; Could be brighter ; Remote is cluttered, buttons small and closely packed ; No 12 volt trigger for screen control ; Pixel visibility (more visible than DLP or the Panasonic with Smooth Screen) ; Reds have an orange caste...

The street price of the PLV-Z5 is excellent! Since the Z5 looks to be a bargain, spend a few bucks of your savings, on a calibration disk. Almost all home theater oriented online resellers carry them! You will see the difference

Sanyo PLV-Z5 Home Theater Video Projector Review

Last year, the Sanyo PLV-Z4 earned a very high rating for its image performance, feature set, and placement flexibility. At the time, it was hard to consider how Sanyo would improve upon such an excellent projector. Now, with the release of the PLV-Z5,...

The Z5 uses the same sleek gray casework as the Z4, complete with motorized lens cover. The cover opens automatically when you power the projector on, then closes up again when it's turned off. This will help to keep dust off of the lens without...

Sanyo PLV-Z5

Back in 2005 we reviewed the Sanyo [[prodid:177]], an excellent LCD projector with very few flaws. In 2006, the [[prodid:1420]] didn't quite live up t...

Excellent image quality, quiet operation, wide array of ports, lens shifting, large maximum image size, extensive calibration options

Some banding in the PC mode resolution tests

If you're in the market for a top-notch home theatre projector, you can't go wrong with the Sanyo PLV-Z5.

Sanyo PLV-Z5 LCD Projector

Sanyo's PLV-Z5 LCD projector isn't brand new but its price is too good to ignore!

Other specs are very promising, as a high brightness rating of 1,100 ANSI Lumens rubs shoulders with a surprisingly hefty 10,000:1 contrast ratio. This latter figure in particular would again have looked like state-of-the-art stuff at the time of the...

Sanyo PLV-Z5 review

The fifth generation of Sanyo's impressive home collection

Clear picture performance

Black levels aren't very good ; Design doesn't impress

Sanyo PLV-Z5

The PLV-Z5 has its benefits, but can't quite match the all-round ability of the best in its class

Versatile positioning ; simple set-up ; strong colours ; decent detail

Struggles to stay on top of fast movement ; depth of field could be better
