The remote is so handy, I viewed it as necessary. If you want to take pictures or stop and start video while your go pro is far from your reach (selfie stick, etc) then you must use either the phone app or a remote. Is this product overpriced? Yes. But...

Nice little gadget for the price. Much more reliable than the gopro app + ipad. I have used both methods.

Very convenient, in that this device extends the battery life of the camera (mine is a GoPro 4 sessions) over use of the wifi connection to my cell phone. I use it with a drone so I tend to be watching the drone and not the cell phone view. Walmart did...

Works like a charm. it has a little trouble connecting under water but overall, it works great! Beware, having the wifi turned on in your go pro will drain the battery quick.
