Home Theater Heaven

Buying components and building a sweet home theater is just the first step. The hard part is taking control of it. And no, it shouldn't take three remotes and a degree in electrical engineering to watch a DVD. The good news is, Logitech's Harmony 890...

Programming software is easy to use. Configuring the remote takes about an hour, not days. Remote comes with charger and wireless extender. Has a Help button to fix occasional problems.

Fast-forward, play, and rewind buttons could be better placed. Wireless extender must be connected to your PC during programming. Codes occasionally do not get sent.

If you're looking for a universal remote to tame all your unruly home-theater devices, Logitech's Harmony 890 is one killer option.

Review: Logitech Harmony 890 Universal Remote

DVRs, audio receivers, massive LCD displays, spent Mountain Dew containers. Your living room is a chaotic mess of electronic components and soft drink bottles. How...

LCD screen shows every function of the remotes it replaces. Converts IR signal to RF eliminating line-of-sight issues. Remote can be programmed via computer and with your existing remotes. Charging base keeps the battery fresh. Compatible with Z-wave...

Can be laggy, making fine adjustments in volume difficult. RF receiver uses four sticky IR emitters, limiting number and placement of hidden equipment unless additional RF extenders are purchased

Logitech Harmony 890

Logitech's first universal learning remote to incorporate both IR (infrared) and RF (radio frequency) wireless operation includes a rechargeable battery and docking station, an RF base station, a DVR-friendly button layout and backlit keys. As with...

Compared to the IR-only 880, the Logitech Harmony 890 is pricey. Its Web interface may intimidate nontechie users, and it lacks the Wi-Fi connectivity that's beginning to appear on some rival high-end remotes.

While it isn't perfect, the Logitech Harmony 890 should be near the top of your list if you're in the market for a sub-$400 RF remote that can operate equipment that's hidden behind cabinets or closet doors.

Logitech Harmony 890 Advanced Universal Remote Review

It seems like my home theater spawns remotes like Gremlins fed after midnight. Every time I sit down it seems I find another remote and its getting to the point that my wife is going to snap. She seems to always grab the wrong remote for whatever it is...

Very Good remote, awful setup application

Nice remote, nice screen, good remote layout, activity based operation, large database of devices, RF (no line of sight).

Incredibly slow set up application (no, my computer is very fast…), wizard only based setup application makes it hard for advanced use.

Seemed Easy at first...but then...

When it's not working well, not worth the ink on the box it came in.

Great after painful install

Controls everything without conflict.

Pain in the tail to install, the fact that you have to unplug the reciever every time you update the remote kinda sucks.

Works Great

Controls 2 tivos, tv, receiver, dvd, xbox 360 without a problem.

Updating takes a while, you must update the IR receiver every time you update the remote settings.

Awesome Remote

RF works like a charm Very easy to setup much easier than other remotes I like the hard buttons, I used to have a touch screen remote and that is not good for no look use.

When you update the remote you have to update the base and the remote.
