First look: Canon CanoScan LiDE90 scanner | Absolute Gadget

Continuing our quick hands-on tests of Canon's new range of products, the CanoScan LiDE90 entry-level scanner also managed to capture our gaze. Probably because it's not that much wider or longer than the A4 pages it scans in.

Overall, this scanner will make a useful addition to anyone looking for an inexpensive option - especially if they need to carry it around with them

Can't complain

Completely satisfied with my purchase, and I don't say that often. I marked it down a star because of the white particles in those two pictures, but I really don't think you'll find better for the money (not even close).

It's hard to complain about something that's relatively cheap, easy to set up, and scans good enough to make a picky wife happy

Had some white particles show up in a couple of pictures. Not sure why. We couldn't see anything in the picture or on the scanner glass that might cause this. But it's only in two pictures out of a bunch, so I don't think there's a need to raise the...

USB Powered!!!!

Canon came out with 2 new models to replace the LIDE25 & LIDE90... The LIDE100 and the LIDE200 The new ones were cheaper based on specs. (as of 9/6/08) old: LIDE25 = 1200x2400 LIDE90 = 2400x4800 new: LIDE100 = 2400x4800 LIDE200 = 4800x4800 (those...

Works Just Great!

Small footprint, easy to install

The Omni software included is rudimentary. You will want to upgrade ... However, the price of the hardware will let you do that

Great Scanner

I replaced my old scanner with this one. Nice scanner. It blows my old one away. Scans quickly. I only need it to copy documents and to attach photographs to emails. The front "one touch" buttons come in quite handy, especially the "copy" button.

USB interface, sleek design, small footprint

Wonderful, Fast, Compact, Perfect!

I was able to scan 35 pictures in under 10 minutes. This Rocks!!

I replaced an HP unit that lasted for 5 years and is still running, just not on Vista. This little baby is far superior to my HP is many ways. First, it's Vista compliant. Second, compact size, this small size is just a little longer than my 17"...

The one con that I do have to give is for the silly "stand" that comes with this unit. I find no use for it. The scanner cannot be used while the stand is clipped on to. So what is the point of it? Not so significant to warrant the removal of an egg

revised review

This scanner comes with all the software you never needed and the one simple scanning utility there is cryptically named and thrown into a "Canon utilities" folder along side equally cryptically named utilities from all your other Canon products. My...

Power and hardware interface both through a single USB connnection. Scans documents to multi-page PDF files

Scans photographs poorly. Support not so good. Lots of factory lemons on the market ; I probably won't keep this scanner as long as my worn-out old LiDE 30, based on which I selected this as my new scanner. But I probably won't buy another CanoScan...

Awesome scanner!

Replaced an old HP all-in-one with this and a Canon Pixma iP4300. I think keeping separate peripherals is better. You rock, Canon.

Fast, small, decent-quality scans, USB-powered (no power brick, yay!), light turns off automatically, side mount is useful for sparse desk space

Short USB cable

Consumer review (newegg.com)

CanoScan's lost it's way.

I had an old LIDE 30 from the same manufacturer, and it was awsome until I finally managed to wear it out. Now everything that was user-friendly 7 years ago is made to require jumping through hoops, ostensibly in the name of making it better by making...

One USB connection provides power and hardware interface both

Needs recalibration for each individual photograph scanned. Still doesn't get image data right. Scanner buttons link to additional software bloat instead of the basic scanning utility, and cannot be switched back to anything that automatically crops...
