Invoxia Triby

As a kitchen-based communications hub with access to Amazon's Alexa voice assistant, the Triby from Invoxia is an innovative, useful device. As a Bluetooth speaker, however, it's less impressive.

Works with Amazon's Alexa voice assistant. Functional, magnetic design. E Ink screen for leaving notes. Free VoIP calls between Triby group members.

Mediocre, underpowered sound. Not all Alexa functionality is available. Using Alexa drains the battery quickly.

If we were judging the <spanTriby simply as a Bluetooth speaker, it would be a poor choice in this price range. But it's much more than a Bluetooth <spanspeaker, and offers some interesting, useful features that simply can't be found in any other...

Triby review: Alexa transforms a silly gadget into a family-oriented digital assistant

I've been living with Invoxia's Triby kitchen gadget ($199 MSRP, available at Amazon) since December 2015. Essentially a niche-market Bluetooth speaker with some kiddie appeal, I just didn't find it to be all that compelling. But now that it's become...

Seamless Amazon Alexa integration ; Very good sound and excellent off-axis microphone pickup ; Terrific industrial design

The otherwise great E-ink display is too small ; You'll quickly lose interest in some of its gimmicky features ; Triby severely limits responses to messages sent from its app

The integration of Amazon's Alex digital voice assistant has transformed the Triby from easily dismissed to easy to recommend.

This adorable Bluetooth speaker puts Alexa on your fridge

The elevator pitch for the Triby is actually a kitchen pitch. 1. Take everything you like about the Amazon Echo speaker (including voice activation) and stick it into a portable Bluetooth speaker....

Alexa ; Cute as a button ; Simple buttons for radio

Flails on bad Wi-Fi ; Buggy software ; Audio quality

Triby review: Alexa transforms a silly gadget into a family-oriented digital assistant

It's just like Amazon's Echo, but with an E-Ink display, VoIP service, batteries, and magnets so you can stick it on your fridge.

Had I reviewed the Triby when I received it in December 2015, my reaction would have been “meh.” I would have said it’s just another wireless speaker (albeit with Spotify Connect integration), and that it has some cute features that youngsters might...

Triby shows another side of Alexa

We've been waiting for Alexa, the smooth-voiced, Amazon-powered digital assistant from the Echo line of speakers to make her way into other products. The first test case is a device called Triby, branded by its creator, Invoxia, as a "smart speaker."...
