Alcatel OneTouch Watch review: No beginner's luck here

This is Alcatel OneTouch's first stab at making a smartwatch, and it's obvious the company's not drawing from a vast pool of experience. Despite the goal of delivering a polished, attractive smartwatch with a reasonable price tag, the Alcatel OneTouch...

Works with iOS and Android ; Impressive battery life ; USB charging port built into strap ; $150 isn't terrible for a smartwatch

Wrist strap ishefty, uncomfortable ; Sometimes struggles to stay connected ; May never get third-party apps

Here's my smartwatch philosophy in a nutshell: The best ones do exactly what you need them to when you need them to, and then fade away into the background when it's all done. When everything works the way it's supposed to, Alcatel OneTouch's Watch...

Alcatel OneTouch Watch reviewed: It's got the looks, but that's not enough

A nice design and decent battery life still can't save Alcatel's smartwatch debut.

The Alcatel OneTouch Watch has an attractive design, long (for a smartwatch) battery life, has a built-in USB charger in its band, works with iOS and Android phones, and includes basic fitness tracking.

Buggy-feeling connectivity as well as slow custom software and user interface feel hard to operate; read-only notifications; LCD screen isn't always on; heart-rate monitor only does spot readings, and doesn't give consistent readings.

The Alcatel OneTouch Watch is an affordable and reasonably attractive basic smartwatch, but it doesn't work well enough to justify choosing one over better and increasingly comparably priced alternatives.

Alcatel OneTouch Watch

The Alcatel OneTouch Watch gets the basics right, but the lack of an app store and finicky fitness tracking offset the affordable price and broad compatibility of this smartwatch.

Relatively inexpensive. Compatible with iOS and Android devices. Good battery life. Water-resistant. USB 2.0 charging port built into watch band.

Limited selection of apps and no app store. Stiff rubber strap. Inaccurate pedometer and heart rate monitor. Grainy display.

Conclusions Like most of its smartwatch brethren, the Alcatel OneTouch Watch is not going to set the world on fire. It only has a small number of predetermined apps, its fitness sensors could be more accurate, and its rigid rubber strap won't win over...

Alcatel Onetouch Watch review

In the nascent world of wearables, there have been two camps. The fitness trackers, like a Fitbit or a Jawbone, and the smartwatches, like Android Wear and the Apple Watch. The common thinking has...

Bright, colorful display ; Decent battery life, easy charging ; Comfortable to wear ; Reliable activity tracking

Notifications stink ; No third-party watch faces ; No clean way to export fitness data

Alcatel OneTouch Watch black, small/medium

Alcatel's OneTouch Watch brings a few really good ideas to the table: it's affordable (priced at $150 or €99; an equivalent of £98 and AU$186). It's water-resistant, reasonably. Its battery lasts several days. It works with both iPhones and Android...

Alcatel Onetouch Watch review: A cheap smartwatch with training wheels

If the Apple Watch is just too expensive and Android Wear somehow offends you, you may dig Alcatel's $150 smartwatch response. Just prepare for compromises.

Affordable ; Easy charging. Long battery life (for a smartwatch) ; Works with both Android and iPhones

Extremely feature-limited ; Notifications engine is undercooked ; Activity-tracking features are thin ; Aesthetics: meh

It's not a great smartwatch. It's not even a good smartwatch. But it will put notifications and activity-tracking on your wrist, and give you an idea of what smartwatches are all about.

Alcatel OneTouch Watch Review

Alcatel surprised many during CES 2015, when it announced a peculiar smartwatch of sorts. At first thought, most folks believed they were entering the Android Wear community, but that didn't quite become the reality, as the Alcatel OneTouch Watch...

Compact round face style design ; Built-in charger ; Bright display ; Simple and straightforward operation ; Competitively priced ; IP67 certificate

Limited set of features with no ecosystem ; Wrist band cannot be replaced ; Manual operation with sleep mode ; Very basic fitness tracking functions ; App doesn’t present data in an organized layout

This is clearly a middle-of-the-road device, as it delivers only the most basic functions for a smartwatch and fitness tracker. In fact, we don’t find it really excelling in one area more than the other, so you can say that it’s a convergence piece...

Alcatel Onetouch Watch Review - Cheap But Limited

Yes, the Apple Watch packs a ton of features. But just how much smartwatch do you need? Alcatel's Onetouch Watch delivers notifications, tracks your activity, controls music playback and reminds you not to lose your phone — all for just $150. It pairs...

Affordable ; Bright, colorful display ; Myriad of notifications supported ; Handy USB charger built in

Limited apps selection ; Doesn't alert you to incoming iPhone calls ; Inconsistent heart-rate monitor ; No voice control ; Screen doesn't light up or automatically pull up preview when notification arrives

The Alcatel Onetouch Watch is an affordable color smartwatch and fitness tracker in one that works with iPhone and Android, but it's held back by limited features.

Alcatel Onetouch Watch review: A cheap smartwatch with training wheels

The Alcatel Onetouch Watch isn't snazzy-beautiful, and it's not packed with features. But at only $150, it's one of the cheapest smartwatches you can buy—and that might seal the deal if you're merely smartwatch-curious instead of smartwatch-confirmed.

Affordable ; Easy charging. Long battery life (for a smartwatch) ; Works with both Android and iPhones

Extremely feature-limited ; Notifications engine is undercooked ; Activity-tracking features are thin ; Aesthetics: meh

And who knows, if the Alcatel Watch drops below $100, it might be just too cheap to pass up—assuming aesthetics and deep functionality just aren’t your thing.

Alcatel OneTouch Watch

Updated: Now with hands-on video of Alcatel's affordable smartwatch

Priced the same as some basic fitness trackers, the device pairs a strong, albeit samey, features list with impressive styling and a bespoke OS which ticks all the boxes. It's only a shame that not all of the ideas behind the OneTouch Watch were...
