OCZ Synapse 64GB SSD Cache Drive Review

The current storage market is all about contrasts but the OCZ Synapse 64GB cache drive is trying to act as an intermediary. On one hand we have the

Reasonable price ; Massive over-provisioning guards against durability concerns ; Will work with your existing hard drive ; Only moderate CPU requirements ; Near-SSD performance sure to make first time users extremely happy ; Can Help extend the life...

Does require CPU cycles to work ; Relies on less than optimal ONFi 1 NAND ; Massive over-provisioning is needed to reduce the performance degradation ; Only 30GB of room for caching ; Not precisely a plug and play setup

The OCZ Synapse is one of those “outside the box” ideas that actually works surprisingly well in the real world. It may not be perfect and

It will make you HDD faster

For the best performance, this should be used as a cache for HDD. I am using this with my 2TB HDD and they work like a hybrid.

price, cache

small capacity (30GB or even zero)

great drive if you actually READ the description!!

people REALLY need to learn how to READ the bloody descriptions! its clearly indicated that 32gigs would be used as cache, yet people act surprised that 'zomg only 29 gigs formatted RIPOFF!!'

pci-e connection. frees up a space in your hd rack for a storage drive. does exactly what it says

only 32gigs cache

not worth it for a cache drive

if I could use 32 gig for my own cache and the other 32 for dataplex then this might be worth it if you're storing large video or game files then a traditional SSD might not work for you that being said i'd rather have SSD boot drive with windows 8 and...

I did get some performance increase ; but I can't tell how much ; boot time is 15 seconds on a win7 64 bit pro ; it was cheap

this is not what I thought it was ; you can't use RAID ; had to reformat to get it to work ; no drives over 2.5 TB ; no space left for me to use for my own caching ; can't store a game image or switch my page file over ; i'd like to be able to write...

Anti-virus software or Bad Drive

Installed easy enough. Software is kind of a hassle, glad I didn't throw away any of the packaging. You will need it to install the software

I don't know if the drive just died or Norton 360 didn't care much for it. Norton 360 ran it's scan or the drive just died, Windows never came back. I had to do a Windows 7 reinstall. I tried installing the drive and nothing. The Synapse drive doesn't...

SCAM save your $$$$

This should be marketed as a 30GB drive which is what it is. I hope I can get it refunded...

None

This is NOT a 64GB SSD! It is only 30GB. I only found out after I replaced my netbook's internal HDD and tried to re-install my OS onto this poor excuse of a drive

Love the Caching Software

This SSD is only worth it for the price if you are planning to use it with an HDD. Install your OS on your HDD, and just leave this drive to be after you format it. Go to the NVELO website and download the Dataplex for this drive. Run the installation...

Love the Dataplex software - speeds up your HDDs by a lot ; If you don't want to spend a lot on high-capacity SSD, this is the way to go! The caching greatly improves boot time and your most commonly used files, applications, etc ; Got it for a great...

Don't be fooled - it's a 32GB drive with 32GB cache. In layman terms, it's 32GB
