Creative TravelSound i80 review: Creative TravelSound i80

Creative TravelSound i80

The Creative TravelSound i80 offers a unique, supercompact design and an integrated iPod dock. It comes with a stand, travel pouch, and power adapter.

The Creative TravelSound i80 suffers from tinny sound and lacks stereo separation. It will not work with any player other than the third-generation iPod Nano.

The Creative TravelSound i80 speaker is a solid option for third-generation iPod Nano owners who value portability and integration over top-notch sound quality.

An iPod speaker dock? Hey, there's an original idea! Seriously, out of the hundreds of different iPod-ready devices out there, the Creative TravelSound i is...

Lightweight and compact. Great sound from small speakers. Four AA batteries can power the unit for more than 20 hours. Included AC adapter recharges iPod while powering the dock. Full battalion of dock adapters for all iPod models included. Dedicated...

No handle. Included carrying case is basically a thin, flimsy sheath not suitable for transporting anything of value. USB sync cable not included

Creative TravelSound 400 Portable Speaker

This sleek and affordable speaker set for any audio player looks good and sounds OK.

We dig the travel-friendly design, the swiveling speakers, and the "enhanced stereo" option of the affordable Creative TravelSound 400.

Unfortunately, the Creative TravelSound 400 offers virtually no low end, and it distorts at high volume levels.

Creative's TravelSound 400 is a snazzy, compact set of travel speakers with an "enhanced stereo" option that manages to make sound seem more spread out--albeit with very little low end.

Creative TravelSound Notebook 500

The Creative TravelSound Notebook 500 loads a lot of features into a 10-ounce package.

Gives you a choice of battery, USB, or AC power; clips onto notebook computers; subwoofer output jack.

AC adaptor costs extra; clip won't fit most desktop flat-panel monitors; brittle high end; reduced volume levels when using USB power.

The TravelSound's candy-bar shape, flexible power options, and ingenious LCD-mounting mechanism make it attractive to notebook owners. But others may prefer to sacrifice a bit of volume or portability to find a system with a better tonal balance.

Creative TravelSound i80

A tiny speaker for the iPod nano

Unique style, great battery life

Poor sound quality

The TravelSound i80 is a truly portable iPod nano speaker with a long battery life to suit. Nevertheless, its design and portability are let down by poor quality speakers that ruin the overall experience.

Creative TravelSoundi

Not even Creative is foolish enough to lock itself out of the iPod market, even if it does have a competing player. It's no surprise, therefore, to se...

Can be powered or battery operated, sound-widening effect, good volume levels, reasonably impressive sound quality for small speakers, subwoofer and video-out ports

Flimsy stand, can't play video from the latest generation of devices

For such a small set of speakers the Creative TravelSoundi has quite a voice. We like the video-out and subwoofer additions, plus the ability to connect any iPod or other audio device. More so, the sound-widening is very impressive.

Compact and Portable, Good value, Wide Music Effect

No Included AC Power Charger, Some distortion at high volume, Poor low-end

The TravelSound 400 isn't going to blow you away in terms of sound quality, but for those who travel frequently, it is quite good value for money.
