Harman Kardon SoundSticks III review: Harman Kardon SoundSticks III

Harman Kardon SoundSticks III

The ; 2.1 speakers equip music lovers with four drivers in each satellite and a large subwoofer to pump extra bass.

There's no external jack for plugging in headphones, the bass controls are mounted on the subwoofer itself, and there's no way to turn off the translucent lighting without powering down the entire system.

The $170 SoundSticks III speakers offer light cosmetic upgrades (and unfortunately retain a few irritations) from the previous model, but if you're a fan of the iridescent design, this speaker system won't disappoint.

Harman Kardon SoundSticks III

The Harman Kardon SoundSticks III is mainly a cosmetic upgrade of previous models, and a subtle one at that, but this 2.1-channel PC speaker set remains our Editors' Choice.

Excellent audio performance. Unique—and now classic—design. Powerful, with strong subwoofer. Improved cable quality.

No remote control. Bass volume control is on subwoofer itself. Semi-hardwired cables—if cables fail, system needs to be repaired or replaced.

Best value 2.1 computer speakers

The futuristic, see-through design of the Harman Kardon SoundSticks (now part of the permanent collection of New York's Museum of Modern Art) has impressed critics since it debuted a decade ago -- and so has the clear, full sound. The latest...

Clear, detailed sound, affordable, no distortion at high volumes, museum-quality design

No headphone jack, no volume indicator on volume buttons, no remote, no way to turn off the glowing light

Harman Kardon Soundsticks III Review

These interesting looking speakers might look great, but do they sound great too?

The elegant, curvy visual appearance of the Soundsticks III is a little at odds with the aggressive sonic tone. However, the sound from the set was patchy, and some elements of the design weren’t as clean as we’d want from something so visually...

Looks great... poor sound...

CNet... you've got to be kidding. I just got a set of these speakers (refurbed from H-K) because I thought they would look great and sound great with my vintage Apple Cube system. Well, at least they look great. The woofer is woefully underpowered and...

Beautiful design

Flabby bass... shrill highs...

I've loved these speakers since day 1 in 2000.

I first encountered these back in 2000. The original SS1's when a friend bought them in Singapore for a third of the price they were selling for back in the UK. I personally have a set of SS2's that I've had since 2009 & never a problem with. I imagine...

I regard my self as having a good ear so I rarely listen to bit rate under 320kbps & I'm blown away by the quality of sound they produce. Plus they always draw an envious comment from a friends.

The power button & Sub volume combined? But not that much of an issue as the only time I touch it is to turn the thing on. Floor boards I need new ones since Dub Step.

Great Buy

I have owned previous models of these same speakers and just as the others, these are amazing. Sound quality is great. Crisp clear sound at any volume level. Goes great with my games and movies. A definite must have for any home computer system. HIGHLY...

BEST SPEAKERS FOR PRICE

I've had them now for a month and they sound awesome. Friends come over and all say they are going to get some. A little pricey for most but well worth the extra money.
