iHome iP49

Fold-up design; built-in rechargeable battery; integrated FM radio and clock; remote included; GSM-shielded so iPhone doesn't need to be switched into airplane mode; decent sound for its size; decent battery life.

A tad pricey; won't charge your iPhone/iPod unless AC adapter is connected.

The iP49 makes for a decent home iPod/iPhone audio system that easily converts into a portable system for travel.

Designwise, the iHome iP49 has the makings of the perfect portable iPod dock, but audio performance is just so-so and alarm features are lacking.

Compact, portable design. Rechargeable battery. Remote features full iPod navigation.

Overpriced. Distorts at high volumes. Alarm is poorly designed. Only six radio presets.

iHome iP49 review

 

The iHome iP49 makes a good impression right from the start, as it folds flat to the size of a fat paperback book when you're not using it, making it easy to slip into a backpack or suitcase when you're travelling.

The £149.95 price tag is a bit steep, but that's about the only problem we can find. The iHome iP49 is one of the best compact speaker systems that you can currently fit inside your backpack.
