Mirage MX 5.1 review: Mirage MX 5.1

Mirage MX 5.1

Incredibly tiny 5.1-channel home theater speaker package; includes matching 800-watt mini-subwoofer; Omnipolar technology produces huge, room-filling sound; extra satellites are available.

The MX's imaging isn't as precisely focused as that of standard boxy speakers--it may be too diffused for some tastes; these mighty mites are just too small for large listening rooms.

Innovative engineering solutions propel Mirage's MX 5.1 Home Theater System to the top spot in the small system/big sound sweepstakes.

Compact home theater speakers

If you're shopping for small speakers that that can fill an average-size room with big sound for both movies and music, look no further than the Mirage MX 5.1. Despite the satellite speakers' very small size, the MX 5.1 can deliver surprisingly deep...

Good sound for movies and music, eye-catching appearance, good bass response

Not for large rooms, imaging not as precise as other surround-sound systems, tricky speaker positioning, finding the right crossover frequency can take some work, expensive

Mirage MX 5.1 home theater speaker system

The world is awash in Lilliputian subwoofer/satellite speaker systems, ranging from virtual throwaways available for $89.99 at the local big-box bazaar to high-end creations selling for 10 to 20 times as much. Several compact packages from Canada's...

Mirage MX 5.1

Far from the complete package but its dimensions mean it will appeal to plenty

Compact; easy to accommodate; good sound dispersion that fills the room; good integration

Lacks precision; dynamics and power can?t compete with larger speakers; gives away detail to rivals

My wife says they are sexy and look great when mounted on the wall, the sub contains two 6.5 inch passive radiators, one on each side and one 6.5 inch down firing woffer. The sound that this little sub produces is stunning. Bose is no longer the lead...

The Sub, Front, Center and rear speakers are finished to near perfection. Excellent quality, solid performance and great sound. Sound dispersion is incredible. Listen to this Setup in the Big Box stores and then come back here and buy them. The price...

I really dont think of this as a Con, binding posts would have been nice but in my opnion would have been to large for these sweet little gems. The spring clips for the speaker wire are of high quality and make for a solid connection

1 subwoofer driver, 1 passive radiator

The sub box has 1 active subwoofer driver, and 1 passive radiator. There are many different ways to build a sub, and most are either sealed boxes with one driver, or ported boxes with one driver (these have a tube). Ported boxes achieve lower bass, but...

To those that see what looks like 2 subwoofer speakers in the sub box and are confused, see other thoughts

Great little speakers

Small, and relatively good looking (for a speaker) ; Great sound, amazing sound for something so small ; Sub (firing 3-ways) is also good for the size

Center channel is weak for watching movies, it started to distort at high volumes due to the amount of work it has to do compared to the other speakers - consider an alternative center, and use the Mirage center as a rear-effects speaker

What's the Fuss?

At $799, a very good investment.

The picture shows 5 Sats and a Sub, don't get the confusion, now back to the matter at hand. I'm nearing those golden years and been an electronic geek all my life. DJ'd about 25 years, built computer systems since 1988 and owned many stereo/AV...

I have put these through a pretty good test and couldn't find any inadequacies

number of sub-woofer speakers in the box

Ordered Dec 9 and received in 2 days. Would not power on to be recognized by laptop (Asus UL30A). I've got 3 external hard drives that I use daily with only one usb plug plus a usb mouse, so I know my ports are good. Also tested on a Dell desktop and...

definitely only 1 sub-woofer in box with 5 small speakers ; great speakers for the price. Got for $600 in summer from Electronics Expo. easy wall mounting without special brackets

wish it cost less to add 2 more speakers to make it 7.1
