Polk React soundbar review: Affordable, expandable, and smart too

Finding a soundbar that sounds great, doesn't break the bank, and yet can be expanded as your needs grow isn't easy. But the $250 Polk React is all three.

Slim, low-profile design ; Easy setup ; Very good sound quality ; Affordable wireless accessories ; Alexa built-in

No HDMI inputs ; Remote is missing playback controls ; Requires Alexa for Wi-Fi streaming ; No Chromecast or AirPlay

Best soundbar under $300 in 2022

The Polk React with DTS Virtual Surround Sound is a single soundbar update to one of my favorite smart soundbars, the Polk Command Bar. While it misses the subwoofer you can always buy an add-on one, and rears too. The 3D surround sound technology...

Polk React review: Built-in Alexa soundbar for your TV

The new React follows up Polk's original almost-but-not-officially-an-Echo soundbar, the Polk Command Bar. The React differs from the Command because it doesn't include the wireless subwoofer -- it's just a single bar. The React sounds very good and is...

Amazon Alexa onboard works well. Excellent sound quality for the price. Smart looking design

Only one HDMI input Optional sub and surrounds are costly.

With the Polk React the manufacturer has given users a clear upgrade path, a rarity in this category, by offering the optional sub and surrounds. If you have to choose between the two it's a tough call. If you mainly watch TV sports or dramas, then the...

Review: Polk Audio React Soundbar

THE ANNOYING DOWNSIDE to soundbars is that very few entry-level options give you an easy way to upgrade to a larger speaker system. Spend a couple hundred dollars for a basic bar now, and you'll be stuck buying a brand new center speaker if you want to...

Alexa onboard. Simple, elegant looks. Easy to add subwoofer and surround speakers down the line. Good bass response.

Slightly more expensive than buying a dedicated system all at once.

The Polk React line lets you start somewhere affordable and grow your system from there, making it a great option for people who just dropped most of their savings on the screen. If that sounds like you, a React system is well worth a listen.

Polk React review: This budget soundbar packs premium sound plus Alexa

Polk Audio has made a name for itself by churning out top-quality audio gear at reasonable prices, and the sweet-sounding yet affordable Polk React soundbar is another example. Costing just $249 (and at press time, it was on sale for $199), the Polk...

Clean, nuanced sound given its price tag Built-in Alexa with multi-room audio support Can add a wireless subwoofer and surround speakers Night mode and voice volume level adjustment

No Dolby Atmos, DTS-X, or DTS Virtual:X support No eARC support Remote control’s flat buttons are difficult to find in the dark

With its clean and nuanced sound, built-in Alexa with multi-room audio functionality, and support for additional speakers, the Polk React now ranks as our favorite budget soundbar (at least until something else beats it).

Best Soundbars of 2022

The soundbar is 34-inches wide and incorporates a two-channel speaker configuration, complemented with Virtual 3D surround sound processing. Additional audio features include Voice Adjust for clear dialog, preset sound modes for Movies and Music, as...

The big selling point of the Polk Audio React Soundbar is that for a very reasonable price it offers up good sound quality as well as having Alexa built-in. Think of it as a sort of an Amazon Echo combined with a soundbar.

7 Best Wireless Surround Sound Systems for Every Budget

Polk's take on wireless surround begins with the Alexa-capable REACT soundbar, which uses digital processing to provide the impression of surround sound in smaller rooms.

Audiophiles will like the sound; others will like the flexibility of configuration

Requires a bit of thought and decision-making while creating your system

As with the JBL system, this reasonably priced setup is best thought of as a way to get good sound in a smaller room.

The KnowTechie 2021 Holiday Gift Guide

This svelte soundbar is covered in classy fabric, with room-filling sound and DTS virtual surround. It's also got an Echo Dot buried in the middle, so it's Alexa-enabled. I use this at home and it's perfect for my smaller apartment. If you really care...

If you really care about the giftee, the wireless subwoofer (sold separately) makes a huge difference.

Polk React soundbar + React Sub review: An injection of bass

Want an affordable soundbar package with future expandability (React Sub and React RS2 can be added for true 5.1 later)? Polk has a strong contender.

Sub really fills out the sound ; Good musicality as a standalone speaker ; Sub and rear speakers (RS2) can be added later - so future expansion possible for 5.1 Dolby Digital / DTS ; Alexa integrated - if that's your thing

Needs the sub for full soundscape (which ups the price) ; Setup a little finicky ; Sound lacks verticality - and no object-based sound decoding ; There's always some kind of front lighting ; Alexa shouts crazily loud

While there's no object-based sound decoding, as a standalone large 'bar with decent output and control, for a very fair price, the Polk has got a lot going for it - especially if you're keen on Alexa integration for voice control. It's when adding a...
