Acer Aspire Switch 10 review

The Acer Switch 10's thin profile, long battery life and low price make for an attractive package.

, we pointed out several factors that are holding them back, including a lack of ideal display size, so-so performance, and Windows itself. Acer’s Aspire Switch 10 does not address any of these problems and, as a result, it’s a bit flawed from the start.

Review: Acer Aspire Switch 10 Special Edition

Last summer, Acer dropped a capable, if simplistic, budget Windows tablet called the Aspire Switch 10. Nothing fancy, but a fine effort to bring the basics to the masses at a price everyone could like.

Super cheap at $350. Considerably brighter screen than previous model, plus slightly longer battery life. Bundled with a free 16GB MicroSD card

Incredibly slow, to the point where it impacts productivity. Overload of shovelware generates a flood of pop-ups. First unit we received crashed and burned during testing, had to be replaced

Or maybe I’m just not understanding what Acer meant by calling this a “Special” edition.

Acer Aspire Switch 10 review

There are many 10-inch and 11-inch hybrids to choose from right now if you've got about $400 to spend and realistic expectations of performance and storage capacity. Recent versions from Lenovo, Dell, and HP all offer Atom or Pentium-powered...

The Acer Aspire Switch 10 has a hybrid mechanism that actually works, and it has a decent keyboard and touchpad for such a small body.

The component-filled top half makes the system top heavy and prone to tipping over backwards. Performance feels sluggish for all-day use, and the default 32GB SSD will be too small for many.

The Acer Aspire Switch 10 is a budget hybrid that skips the more-common fold-back or button-clasp hinges and instead attaches its screen via a magnetic connection. It shares the same hardware limitations as other small hybrids, but can be easier to use.

Review: Acer Aspire Switch 10 Special Edition — a small hybrid laptop

Convertible laptops have come a long way in the past couple years, deviating from the original floppy hingeless designs that are still too common in favor of a hinged, sturdy keyboard. This allows the same portability of a snap-free display while also...

Acer Aspire Switch 10 Special Edition is a perfectly lovely laptop for everyday needs. When used as a laptop, it functions perfectly and doesn’t betray the fact that it has a removable display. The tablet portion is especially lovely, particularly with...

Acer upgrades the Switch hybrid with a new look

The Acer Switch line of hybrids was one of our favorites early on in the Windows 8 era, because this low-cost line kept its screen and keyboard connected via a magnetic hinge, which was much easier to use than the physical latches many of the early...

The R11 will come with either Intel Pentium or Celeron processors, and only a 1,366x768 resolution display. With lower-end specs like that, it's not surprising that it only cost $249 to start when it's released in July in the US (or €349 in Europe in...

Perfect mobile work solution (I returned my Surface Pro 3 for it)

I love this little guy: As I mention in the summary I returned the Surface Pro 3 that I bought at the same time because I found myself using the Acer more.

Size, Speed, Utility, Price

It's not a Surface Pro 3; but it's 1/3 the price.

"Good when it works. . . But not for longevity"

Speed, portability, resolution, sound, different viewing modes, touch-screen

Battery, start-button issues, Windows button issue, not a laptop replacement, Acer support
