Hitachi P50XR01 50in Plasma TV

A whopper basted in black and garnished with a hard disk recording system stuffing. Mmm.

Hitachi P50XR01 review

This expensive plasma not only records live TV, it's a swell Full HD performer to boot

Built in recorder ; Impressive picture quality ; Good standard-def upscaling ; Looks good

Pricey ; Lacklustre black levels

Its built-in recorder is the highlight of this good all-round Full HD plasma

Hitachi P50XR01

Decent value thanks to the inclusion of a hard disk and reasonable performance

For: Full HD spec; three HDMI; integrated 250GB hard disk; smooth, solid image, with natural colours

Against: Cumbersome controls; softness and noise at times

Hitachi P50XR01 review

Hitachi's latest 50in plasma sports a handy 250GB hard-disk for recording. Is it the most convenient all-in-one TV solution?

You could get a better flatscreen picture from a standalone set at this price but, for convenience, this Hitachi takes some beating
