Does the swanky 'Infinia' branding mark out this TV as something a bit special?

Very slim, Nice multimedia tools, Superb clarity with bright scenes

LG 42LE7900 review

This solidly professional 42 incher from LG really delivers the goods - OK there are a few flaws, but all in all we really like what it can do

Specification and looks allure ; detailed, smoothly rendered images from all sources

Struggles to deliver true black ; iffy sound

Capable and covetable, this is well worth considering

LG 32LE7900 review

Even with a price reduction this LG LCD can't compete against the class-leading sets. It's not a bad TV, its rivals are just too strong

Stylish looks, fine finish, sizeable spec ; ergonomics ; bright, dynamic images

Pictures are soft when they should be crisp ; black levels only so-so ; expensive despite price-cut

If you’re a fraction off the pace in a race like this, you’re nowhere – and the LG can’t seriously trouble the front-runners

LG Infinia 42LE7900

It achieves this slimness by using edge LED backlighting. This isn't new, but the 42LE7900 has an interesting twist: local dimming. In other words, it can adjust the brightness of 12 segments of the LED lights individually, to hopefully improve contrast.

Great colours and sharpness, lovely design, excellent connectivity, easy to use, lots of setup flexibility, Freeview HD tuner

Local dimming doesn't really work, black levels rather average, viewing angle limited

This is a very good TV, I particularly like the BBC iPlay function, the picture quality is just like a normal transmission. I have mine linked to the internet via a cable which was a simple plug and play. I have had a Samsung LED and this is much...

The only small issue is that the screen is quite reflective, but I would really see this as an issue
