LG 50PK990 review

Flagship full HD plasma packs-in a Freeview HD and some cracking pictures

Unique design ; User-friendly interface ; Freeview HD tuner ; DivX HD playback from USB

Contrast needs improvement ; High price ; Average audio

Although big TVs are still lazily called plasmas by the mass media and Great British Public alike, LED is fast piling on the sales.

This big screen LG is still a worthy television, but its rivals have upped the game, and it loses a star in the process

Superb styling ; a simple pleasure to use ; Freeview HD tuner and streaming functionality ; good picture performance.

Contrast levels can’t match best ; colour palette sometimes hits wrong note.

This remains a classy performer but picture can now be bettered (if only just)

Excellent picture and sound quality. Internet apps are limited but easy to use and access. Did I mention the picture quality? Outstanding especially compared to competitor 50" tv on any technology Inc. LED! and the price - very cheap

The remote control whilst allowing full function control can be a bit complicated and overwhelms my wife and the kids. Also some functions are useless if you don't get comparable LG surround sound/DVD/blueray.
