LG PA6500 series plasma TV is decent but not stellar

LG's PA6500 series plasma TV is cheaper than others its size, but given some of its issues, it's not the best value at this level.

The ; is an inexpensive plasma with natural-looking colors and solid bright-room quality. Image processing is a highlight, with correct 24p response mating well with the full 1080p resolution. This LG has a living-room-friendly appearance and it's easy...

The LG evinced some of the lightest, least realistic black levels in its class. Colors lack some of the saturation found in the TV's peers, and it showed more temporary image retention. The LG suffers from solarization, which manifests as distinct...

The LG PA6500 is a decent plasma television if you'll have nothing less than 1080p for cheap, but it's not the best value at this level.

LG PA6500 series plasma review

It's getting toward the spiky end of 2012, and save the surprise appearance of some OLEDs , we've seen most of the TVs that we expect to score highest in picture quality. This leaves us with televisions like the PA6500: not a dreadful plasma by any...

LG 50PA6500

Unfortunately, the best thing about this TV is its glow-in-the-dark remote. Pass.

The PA6500 is LG's entry-level 1080p plasma series for last year's market. In a time where almost every HDTV is 3D-capable, and almost every 3D-capable HDTV is smart, we often find it refreshing to test and review the less frilly products. However,...

LG 50PA650T

LG delivers 2013's first insane bargain with this 50in plasma

Unbelievably good value ; Good all-round picture quality for its money ; Good audio

No Smart or 3D features ; Pictures aren't the brightest ; Input lag slightly high

For instance, while the 50PA650T's black levels don’t get close to those of the best Samsung and Panasonic TVs, looking much greyer, they're still deeper than those of most if not all similarly affordable LCD TVs. Furthermore, dark scenes also look...

LG 50PA650T

Huge, no-nonsense TV offers a good balance between picture and price – it's just lacking a little detail to light and dark areas

Decent detail ; Convincing flesh tones ; Good HD tuner ; Nice design

Washed-out blacks and whites ; Gradients need more subtlety

So, this LG TV review is something of a mixed bag. It offers a good picture, with plenty of detail, an easy-to-use menu system and programme guide, nice design and decent performance with high-def sources. And you certainly can’t baulk at the price.

The LG PA6500 is a decent plasma television if you'll have nothing less than 1080p for cheap, but it's not the best value at this level.

Inexpensive ; Natural-looking colours and solid bright-room quality ; Correct 24p response mates well with the full 1080p ; Living room-friendly appearance ; Easy to use

Unrealistic black levels ; Colours lack saturation ; Temporary image retention

GREAT TV for the Price!

I won't get into too many technophile level details, but what I will try to do is break it down based on what most normal purchasers would care about shopping in this price range. First, before going into the review, I will say this, when you first buy...

+ Picture is very nice + Colors are very nice, extremely rich and vibrant + This TV is very thin + 2 HDMI ports and one 1 USB port + Base seems quite sturdy

- Any glare in the room will be seen on the screen

"Very nice, after much tweaking of picture settings."

on May 2, 2012 contrast: 75, brightness: 70, sharpness: 30, color: 54, tint: green 10, color temperature: cool 30. Gives BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL results. (Exceptions: ESPN studio footage seems to be color heavy, but still quite nice with these settings,...

BEAUTIFUL picture, now that I have the settings I like for the picture. Your mileage may vary, but I like: energy saving: off, contrast: 67, brightness: 55, sharpness: 30, color: 62, tint: green 7, color temperature: cool 5.

The factory defaults for contrast, etc. were really bizarre, at least for my room. Who uses a contrast setting of 100% So, I spent way too much time finding good settings. But it was worth the effort.

2 years, 3 months, and a week

I will never buy a L G plasma TV again

Reasonable price, nice picture, plasma

Did not last, never had a TV quit in 27 months, screen would just go blank. Could restart and have picture again for a few minutes, then blank again. Must admit that it was used almost daily for at least 2 to 4 hours, but a TV should last much longer...
