Panasonic TC-P42S1

It's not perfect, but Panasonic's TC-P42S1 is a solid bargain for a 42-inch set.

Good value. Bright, detailed picture. Energy-efficient, especially for a plasma set.

Mediocre upconversion. Poorly optimized cinema picture preset.

Panasonic TC-P42S1 Plasma HDTV Review - Intro

Available for about $840, the TC-P42S1 is well priced for a 42-inch Plasma. But it has some problems that make it a less than stellar pick, with problems rendering blacks and whites together and trailing on fast-moving images.

Facing competition from LCD HDTVs, the price of plasma TVs has been falling recently. And the LC-P42S1 is a good example of this: it is very well priced for a 42-inch screen at around $840. And it's a decent display for the price, but it has a number...

Panasonic TC-P42S1 Review – 42-inch Plasma HDTV

With the introduction of the Panasonic TC-P42S1 in the market, Panasonic aims to conquer the niche consumers who want more value for money. They will be satisfied with the minimal new features and at the same time compromise by not getting the best...

Panasonic TC-P42S1

Although the 42S1 presentation of Blade Runner displays subdued color, this picture displays a punchy spirit albeit with somewhat muted black levels

The picture quality from 480i is very average, it's slightly soft and shows some graininess. The problem is not with processing but rather with color rendition and fading black levels. Dark shadow detail is excellent to to the TVs high brightness...

Panasonic TC-P42S1 Review

Gifted with the new NeoPDP display and a resolution of 1080p, Panasonic TC-P42S1 represents a very good quality mid level plasma TV, and a step up from the manufacturer?s X1 series. Although it does not display the latest features in plasma TV?s, like...

Very good overall picture quality ; Deep black levels and shadow detail ; Good colors ; More energy efficient than older plasma TV generations

No THX certification ; Anti-glare performance could be better ; Colors are not perfectly accurate

One buying a Panasonic TC-P42S1 won’t have a word to complain about the level of blacks on the screen. Even at its lower price, the S1 plasma TV still claims the field for having the same quality in black levels, as can be found in more expensive...

Excellent picture at a reasonable price

If you are going to be watching mostly during the day go with an LCD since they have better back lighting but if you are like most who watch at night then plasma HDTVs have a better picture with deeper blacks and better contrast that work well in...

If you don't need all the latest bells and whistles and just want a high quality picture at a reasonable price then this HDTV is what you're looking for. I spent weeks researching HDTVs and discovered plasma's have fixed the "burn in" issues and...

Panasonic VIERA 42" 1080p 600Hz Plasma HDTV TC-P42S1

Newegg continues to provide excellent service. Even when ordered during the busy Christmas season, service was fast and reliable - and the price was the best I had found. I have made several purchases from Newegg - decent prices and all aspects of...

As expected, a great picture with all of plasma's well known advantages. Very decent sound. As much I/O as I need. Could hardly have been more please with my choice

Because I use over-the-air reception rather than cable, I would have desired greater RF sensitivity. I must add, however, that I have no way of knowing whether any other manufacturer or model would have performed any better. Reception is certainly...

Excellent

Awesome TV. Can't beat it for $750.

Picture is excellent, insanely easy to set up. Had it in my house within a week of ordering, and that was after Newegg called me to clear up some confusion with my address (customer service here is AWESOME). No dead pixels(!). Tons of inputs/outputs....

The only Audio Out port is digital optical, so if you have a stereo older than 2-3 years, you need a converter, or need to buy a digital receiver. Fortunately, the the built in sound is more than adequate for a mid-to-large sized room. The volume goes...

Great Flat Panel TV

Sports look great, on the Xbox Modern Warfare 2 looks amazing. I absolutely love this Television.

Great TV, I bought this on Black Friday, it has such a great picture imho. Good sound, great picture, for the price I haven't find anything to beat it. Solid sturdy stand, sits on top of a great entertainment stand

No analog audio outputs, but I havent found a need for those with my surround system, as all the peripherals are connected via hdmi and optical audio to my reciever
