Panasonic's GT50 plasma TV pushes picture quality and design envelope

With superb picture quality and beautiful external design, the GT50 is among the best plasma TVs of the year. But is it good enough to justify the high cost?

The ; series exhibited outstanding overall picture quality, characterized by exceedingly deep black levels with great shadow detail, accurate colors, and solid bright-room performance. Unlike LCDs, as a plasma it has superb off-angle and uniformity...

The GT50 isn't as strong a value as some competing plasmas. It uses more power than LCD TVs, and doesn't perform as well in bright rooms as those with matte screens. It doesn't come with 3D glasses. The GT50 is only available in 50-inch and larger sizes.

Superb picture quality and beautiful design place the Panasonic GT50 in the top tier of plasma TVs, but it's more expensive than others with similar performance.

Panasonic TC-PUT50 review: Panasonic TC-PUT50

Panasonic TC-PUT50

In pure dollar/performance terms the ; is one of the best TVs we've seen, with astounding picture quality for the money. Black levels are the equal of Panasonic's ST50 series in a darkened room, shadow detail is very good, and colors are accurate....

The UT50 series doesn't perform very well in a lit room, with blacks becoming muddy and indistinct. The performance of 3D is only passable, with quite distinct ghosting effects. The TV lacks advanced setup controls, which makes tweaking a better...

The Panasonic TC-P50UT50 plasma TV nearly matches the world-beating picture quality of the ST50 series, at an even lower price.

Panasonic Viera TC-P65GT50

The Panasonic GT50 plasma series, debuting at CES, offers few buzz-worthy elements. Well… that it to say that it has all of last year's buzzy features (3D, Skype, etc.), just rehashed for 2012 with minor improvements. That's not enough to dissuade our...

The Panasonic GT50 series continues a solid tradition of plasma TVs from the venerable manufacturer. We expect good, if not very good, picture quality. The baseline performance from the last two years of GT televisions has been strong, so any...
