Review: Panasonic Viera P55VT50 is an imperfect, pricey plasma TV

Panasonic's high-end 55-inch plasma set offers very good performance and all the latest features. However, its remote is sub-par, and you can find comparable picture quality for much less.

Media playback from SD cards, USB devices, and DLNA ; Thorough in-set help menus and downloadable manual ; THX-certified playback mode ; Very good picture quality

Expensive ; Active-shutter 3D glasses aren't included with the set ; Uses a lot of power

The Panasonic P55VT50 is the flagship plasma from a company that's known for making great plasma sets, so our expectations were very high. It's certainly a fancy, expensive HDTV with solid performance and loaded with all the latest whistles and bells....

Panasonic TX-P55VT50

Exclusive: It's big, beautiful and brilliant. Say hello to Panasonic's new flagship 55in TV.

Sensational 2D and 3D pictures ; Gorgeous design ; Mostly good online system

Pictures not especially bright, especially with 3D ; Panasonic's own ST50 series offers stiff competition ; Touchpad remote is flawed

Panasonic TX-P55VT50 TV review

Despite Panasonic revealing a new-found enthusiasm for LED this year, most serious video enthusiasts will still be carrying a torch for the brand's new plasma TVs, particularly the flagship VT50 series auditioned here.

Sensational picture quality in 2D and 3D mode; excellent build quality and design

It’s pretty expensive; pictures aren’t as bright in light conditions as LED TVs

Panasonic VT50

SD & HD picture quality, Black depth, Fast response time and low input lag, Color accuracy, 3D picture quality, New media sharing features promising, No audible buzzing on our sample

Daytime performance still not great, Still some color banding, Color dithering, Smart Viera lacks content, vision, Active 3D glasses costly, flicker

Panasonic VT50 is a Smart Viera TV with Panasonic’s entire suite of TV apps and media features, powered by a dual-core processor. It runs smoother than in 2011 but the platform still lacks content, quality TV apps and vision. The new media sharing...

Great TV

This Plasma is state of the art, and cleaned up at the CES 2012. A reference quality picture. Reviewers that are not familiar with the product shouldn't write reviews. Do your research on this TV, it doesn't get any better!
