Philips 40PFL7605H

This 40in LED LCD television lacks a Freeview HD tuner, but its excellent picture more than makes up for that.

Picture quality beats price-point rivals ; Attractive design, screen only 30mm thick ; Great connectivity, plus net TV

No Freeview HD tuner ; No Power Pixel HD engine ; Some visible artefacting

As usual with a Philips TV, you can royally screw the 40PFL7605H’s pictures up if you’re not careful with its processing options. But honestly, it’s really not that difficult to learn your way round. And once you’ve figured out what works for your...

Philips 37PFL7605 review

It might have some excellent aspects, but the lack of Freeview HD and blurred motion on this otherwise capable Philips hold it firmly back

Stunning detail ; impressive audio ; brilliant colour palette ; great styling ; Ambilight

No Freeview HD ; lacklustre choice of apps ; blurry motion

Although it’s a truly excellent television in some areas, the Philips 37PFL7605 isn’t a complete all-rounder

Philips 32PFL7605H review

Excellent value edge LED TV lacking only an HD TV tuner

Very nicely designed ; Excellent multimedia capabilities ; Mostly very good picture quality ; Ambilight ; Fair price ; Superb remote control

Black levels could be deeper ; Small backlight consistency issues ; No Freeview HD tuner ; High maintenance pictures

Conventional (CCFL) LCD will be extinct by the end of 2011 at this rate. Philips' 32PFL7605H is the latest in a procession of startlingly affordable, relatively small edge LED TVs and its diode-driven backlight delivers benefits ranging from its...

Philips 32PFL7605 review

The Philips 32PFL7605 has features such as NetTV, so you can surf the web and access media content

Looks ; finish ; remote ; images can look absolutely stunning

Picture quality can be inconsistent ; no HD TV tuner ; set-up is labour intensive

The Philips is very close to being a fabulous TV, but it falls at the final hurdle with a few motion and picture issues

Philips 40PFL7605 review

Edge LED with added Ambilight & Net TV, but where's Freeview HD?

Contrast, colour & clarity ; SD upscaling ; USB media playback ; Remote control

No Freeview HD tuner ; No built-in Wi-Fi ; Sluggish Net TV ; Wired networking

Arriving in the most popular size for LED-lit TVs – 40-inch – the 40PFL7605 appears remarkably thin (it's just 42mm deep), but, more importantly, well built.

Philips 40PFL7605 review

This LCD from Philips is a great television, but minor flaws, including lack of Freeview HD, prevent it from being truly exemplary

Brilliant looks ; lovely remote ; great sound ; pictures with awesome detail and contrast ; Ambilight

Imperfect motion ; no Freeview HD ; rather fiddly to set up

In some areas, this is one of the best TVs around; minor flaws prevent it from fully being so

Philips 40PFL7605

LCD TVs with souped-up LED backlights have propped-up the prices of flatscreen TVs this past year or so, but while brands such as Sharp and Toshiba slowly take LED tech down towards the entry-level, Philips has issued another reasonably high-end...

HD & SD picture, contrast, clarity

Lacks Freeview HD tuner

The lack of Freeview HD puts a serious dent in this otherwise attractively priced and advanced Edge LED TV. Excellent speakers, digital media playback and an easy-to-use interface and the highlights, though its ability with contrast, colour and...

Philips 7000 series LED (37PFL7605) Review

Enter Philips new 7000 series LED LCD Full HD TV.

Slim design ; Internet access that is not locked to proprietary widgets ; Correct 24p playback ; Good lag time for gaming ; Good energy consumption

Poor screen uniformity ; Visible light pooling from LED edge lighting ; Black level and contrast are average with lack of image depth and shadow detailing ; Lack of calibration control including CMS and poor greyscale control ; Poor remote control and...

It’s clear that Philips want to do things their own way when it comes to HDTVs and that shows with the features included here and the results from them. There seems to be technology for technologies' sake with this TV yet none of that goes towards...
