Samsung PNF8500 review

Amid the hubbub about Panasonic's financial trouble and questions about how it will affect the future of plasma TV , it's easy to forget about Samsung. The world's No. 1 TV maker has invested substantially in plasma research and production, and has...

The Samsung PNF8500 series exhibits outstanding picture quality with a class-leading bright-room image, exceedingly deep black levels, very good shadow detail, highly accurate colors and superb off-angle and uniformity characteristics; mind-boggling...

Extremely expensive; correct film cadence requires sacrificing some black level; remote lacks numerous direct commands; imperfect cable box control; consumes more power than LCD TVs.

Samsung's best-performing TV ever, the PNF8500 series pushes the plasma picture quality envelope, especially in bright rooms.

you can still find them if you look hard

Contrast ratio is not the only picture quality in a great tv. A great tv is a good balance of factors

natural looking colors and sharpness

not the best contrast ratio

"Amazing picture (I mean really amazing), even in a bright room"

I have good hearing (musician, 51, good hearing). I can hear the high pitched whine from a HDD spinning, or an old CRT - from across the room - in a room with two LOUD fans running. Old *CRT* sets are just painful. The Samsung F8500 has (from what I've...

The picture quality.

worst "buzz" of any PLASMA ever made. FIne if you're deaf & don't have a dog

A truly Superb TV

I purchased the 51" version of this Samsung Plasma TV. I used the overall picture setting recommendations noted in this review and the picture quality, color, etc. is outstanding. I would also like to note that since this review was written, Samsung is...

Great picture, easy set-up, tons of features, well made and great looking, even when it's not turned on

tons of features, many of which I'll likely never use

First Samsung after forty years of Sony's.

I have committed heresy.

Dark, dark, darks.

Smart TV interface a tad quirky.

Amazing 2D TO 3D Plasma Excellent

Fantastic Plasma But if you had 36 BIT color, it was the world's best plasma

3D (Must direct ) 2D blacks are dark Amazing White 2D TO 3D Amazing Bright picture Video processor is good Depth amazing picture

1. Strait lot of heat, no noise from the screen. 2. Internet / camera / hand movements excellent working but who needs this crap? People buy TV for picture 3.Missing Shades of Color ( It's time to 32 - 36 BIT COLOERS )

"Remote won't work and service at Samsung not reliable."

Called support center and was told the TV needs a software upgrade and was told it would take 2 to 6 weeks for each update to come in the mail. It's been over a month now and the last time I spoke with someone about this they said they would call back...

Great picture, great performance

Remote won't turn tv on at all. That is all I use it for as Samsung will not allow other universal remotes to turn their product on. Now I have to reach behind to turn it on and off feels like 1960 in 2014.

Great black levels, terrible white screen performance!

I received this unit on Friday 02/14/14 but it constantly makes a buzzing sound, has HDMI sync issues (displays as flickering white noise after switching between inputs on my receiver), and the auto brightness limiter turns any content with more than...

Great contrast, when not displaying an image with a lot of white at least... More "smart" features than I know what to do with!

The ABL is super annoying, especially if you use a PC or surf the web on it. I don't understand how no reviewer talks about the terrible effects of the ABL!!! Buzzes constantly, possibly capacitor buzz? Uses 3x the power of a local dimming LED LCD.
