Sony KDL32CX523 – A Performance Model

The Sony KDL32CX523 aka the Bravia CX523 is the descendant to EX403 series from the model year 2010 from Sony. As shown by the model number the CCFL variant of the internet TV lineup of the company has also been downgraded from EX range. So the Sony...

Sony KDL-32CX523

Sony's KDL-32CX523 does more in both feature and performance terms than you've any right to expect for its money.

Great value ; Excellent online services ; Good pictures for the money

Uninspiring build quality ; A little motion blur ; Not particularly easy to use

The 32CX523 might lack the ‘sexiness' in design and technology terms of an edge LED TV, but its CCFL LCD engine and excellent online features still make it a superbly good value second or even main room TV.

Sony KDL-32CX523 review

The Sony KDL-32CX523 will give you the latest features on a budget, if you don't mind how it looks

Great value in terms of features ; sound isn’t bad ; good tuner ; subtle, detailed pictures

We aren’t too keen on this Sony’s gloomy picture ; nul points for style

A feature-packed budget set that only gives away a smidge in performance

Sony KDL-32CX523 review

Smooth images, smartphone control and BBC iPlayer on this so-called entry-level Bravia

Tweaked user interface ; BBC iPlayer ; Freeview HD ; Picture quality ; USB media support

Basic LCD panel ; Disappointing contrast ; Motion blur ; Web browser is tricky to use ; Basic networking

The 2011 batch of Bravias has been kept back a little, but rather than herald the arrival of a new lineup of big, bold, competitive and cutting-edge flatscreen TVs. The Sony KDL-32CX523 32-inch LCD TV delivers purely as a good value package. And then...

Sony KDL-32CX523

Sony is back with one of its first offerings for 2011, and it's a budget belter. Lacking any kind of upmarket panel tech, you'll have to make do with regular LCD (no sign of any LED backlighting here), but elsewhere there are plenty of features to wow...

HD pics, streamed content, new user interface

Average contrast, some motion blur

Well-specified LCD TV that makes up for its lack of LED backlighting by piling on the features. Smartphone control is worth considering while the presence of BBC iPlayer and DLNA streaming make this a thoroughly modern effort - and one that punches...

Excellent HD images. Perfectly watchable SD images through the x-reality picture processor: pictures are sharp and clean. I know this set retailed close to £500 I picked mine up for under £320.

The internet features have to be hooked via a usb cable or wireless through a dongle. I tried the former but limited content and inferior pictures on catch up compared to my PS3. The bezel is a little on the wide side.

It's easy getting the basics sorted - plug in, watch TV

There is no support on the 'smart' side. Connect to the internet? Need to buy extras. Figure out how to watch internet TV? (BBC iplayer etc) No chance. No help, no guidance, no functionality, and if you want to try and upload a more up to date...

stylish, good feature set, very good connectivity, usb, hdmi, hard drive recording feature, internet access.

internet browser is practically unusable. internet dongle is appallingly bad, some widgets are unwieldy to use. could not activate lovefilm widget.

Sony KDL-32CX523

Looks nice, I like large screen, lightweight. Reasonable value for money.

Picture quality is bad if you are seated at a slight angle to the screen, okay if you are seated directly in front of TV screen. Sound quality is very poor. Poor internet wireless quality (this could also be problem with USB, I'm not sure).
